Having been to almost all the hill stations in Tamilnadu, we wanted to set out for a new hill station and the result of extensive googling was Horsley hills. We searched for a hill station around Chennai and found out Horsley hills(which is approx 200 Kms I beleive).
The quest started at morning 5 and with a team of five, we started our jouney on an age old Zen(without Stepny) to Horsley hills. We reached Horsley hills by around 11 which includes a couple of breaks we had for breakfast and eco spoiling breaks(we are a bunch of smokers). At the entrance of the hill, there was a guy who collected toll fee for the ghat roads(in fact. he needs to pay us driving on that road). such a horrible road. It was an half an hour hill drive and when we reached the top. it was worth all the way to driven to this deserted place. It was a mystic beauty one would long for. We just spent about the time going for some small treks and then had look at what they called a small zoo(similar to a gemini circus one). The climate needs mention as its really cool there(I beleive it would be 18 - 21C). Now back to business. theres a AP tourism restaurant(Punnami) which serves authentic Andhra cuisine which goes well with a mug of beer(even a mug or two more its even better).
The beauty of this hill station is in the sunset which is worth waiting for. no words to describe the beauty. After watching it, we had a discussion to stay there for the night or leave to Chennai and the mandate was to leave for Chennai. We decided to leave for Chennai at 7 PM not knowing the fate which was waiting for us. By around 8.30 we were driving in the mid of no man's dark land(somewhere 35 KM after Madanapally, AP I beleive) or car tyre got deflated. The first thing we did was took our valuables and hided it wherever possible in the car apart from the safety requirement. It was a place where a vehicle passed once in ten or fifteen mins and the nearest puncture shop was some five kms away. Luckily there was a lorry which stopped for us and by the time we had already taken the tyre with tools. Three of us were standing near the care while two of our friends got the tyre puncture rectified. It was 90 mins of fear and frustration. We reached Chennai by 12 and had a huge story to tell everyone about Horsley hills.
Horsley hills is an excellent place for people who prefer adventure and beautiful presentation of Nature. Its a must go for guys and girls who enjoy partying at levels above sea.
