Hi Guys,

This is my first review. Correct me if this one needs bit more clarity in any areas, i am sure gonna correct it if u help me out !!!

I purchased my bike in Feb 2006, when pulsar
was reigning the 150cc segment. I aged 20 then, like any college student was tempted towards pulsar for its damn looks n style.
My father was not a big fan of bajaj and asked me to go for hero honda or honda.
I checked out unicorn, after some recommendations from my friends i decided to go for the unicorn.

Decided to settle with the kick start version as ES was too costly. abt 3500 extra

Pros : -

I can assure you if u go for unicorn u wont regret later. I really love it smooth and creamy engine.
Even after 36,000kms it gives me a mileage of 53 in city and 60+ in highway.

Engine and Gearbox are still best in the class even after 4 years, Honda has still not changed the engine tuning or done any major changes, Its still the best.

The Mono shocks give u good riding comfort.

Disk brakes are good.

13.3bhp on paper seems less comparing to the latest 150cc bikes, but onroad numbers really don’t have any importance. The engine has got goodpower. Really pulls u hard!!

Cons : -

I feel unicorn lacks a bit of aggressiveness and sporty looks. But u cannot find any flaws in the current design either. Rather conservative approach.

The negative factors account mainly bcoz of the poor service by the honda service center.
The service guys don’t tune the engine properly that gave me knocking problem for some time.
Initially thought it to be engine oil problem, but later found out to be due to improper tuning.

The bike takes a bit of time to warm up during cold start, u need to use choke for 10 secs and 1km
ride for the engine to gain the optimal temperature.

Chain needs tightening every 2 months.

Not happy with the rear brake, even after replacement of brake shoe. The front disks are so good that i don’t feel the need for the full efficiency of the rear brake.

The reserve is said to be 1.5litres but i find it to be just about 1 litre, and can take u to maximum of 60-65kms in reserve.

Conclusion :-

Today even after almost 6yrs after launch it still gives tough competition to the latest 150cc segment.
Overall a good package from Honda. !st Gen,2nd Gen or 3rd Gen unicorn. the Bike simply rocks!!!

Deepak

Pros:
For Good Engine, Gearbox, Mielage
Cons:
Conservative looks,Non-availability of Digital speedo
