After a two-year hiatus, the Honda Jazz makes a grand comeback in India, this time loaded with features and a diesel motor too. Based on an all-new platform(shared with the City), the Jazz is spacious than before and because it’s built with a desire to be the ‘most functional compact car in the world’, it makes for a better practical package.

Take for instance the amount of space it offers on the inside. The Jazz is now one of the most spacious hatchbacks in India and with the ‘magic seats’ it comes with, it can make more space than a full-fledged sedan. At 354 litres, the boot space is a tad tinier than the old car(366 litres), but that’s about it. The rest is a package that’s improved on every count, be it dimensionally, the list of features or the number of engine-gearbox combination it comes with.

That brings us to the powertrain options. The new Jazz continues to be powered by the same 88bhp, 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol motor as before, but now comes with options of a 5-speed manual and a CVT gearbox. Honda claims the petrol Jazz will return 18.7kpl for the manual, while it’s 19kpl for the CVT variants.

New-for-Jazz is the diesel motor, the same one that breathes under the hoods of other Hondas, so that means a 1.5-litre i-DTEC with power ratings of 98bhp and 200Nm of torque, teamed with a 6-speed manual ’box. And the Japanese carmaker claims its quite frugal too, 27.3kpl to be precise.

How does the new hatchback perform out in the real world? Well, for that here’s our detailed new Honda Jazz review. If you want to know more about the price, then read on. The manual hatchback is available in five trim levels of petrol and diesel each, while the petrol CVT gets only two. The prices start from Rs 5.31 lakh(ex-showroom, Delhi) for the base petrol, going up to Rs 7.29 lakh for the top-end petrol, while the CVT retails at Rs 7 lakh(S) and Rs 7.85 lakh(V). The diesel range begins at Rs 6.5 lakh and tops off at Rs 8.59 lakh.

Prices(ex-showroom, Delhi)

SV: Rs 6.44 lakh

The new Jazz competes with the likes of the popular Hyundai i20 and the Volkswagen Polo, and yes, at Rs 5.31 lakh, the Honda has been priced competitively this time around. Okay, the top-end variants of the Jazz are slightly dearer when compared to its rivals(almost by Rs 50, 000), but Honda’s offering more features than anyone else out there. Plus there’s more space and the magic seats(only on top-end VX variant) is a great addition to any family car.

As we'd promised, here is the Mumbai price list for the new Jazz.
