Having been enthralled by the movie version of Lord of the Ring trilogy by Peter Jackson, and being an admirer one of J R R Tolkien's close friend and associate C S Lewis, reading the book post watching the first installment of the Hobbit franchise was nothing but a natural progression.
Wonderfully written, Tolkien has taken pains to be as detailed as one would like to be. The details are not in explaining the actions but more on creating the background, and in creating the Big picture. Like a portrait being painted, Tolkein picks and chooses details that can link to the prequel and the sequels. The book comes along as an intellectual piece of art, albeit with words.
The writing style is very fluid for Tolkiens day, with minimal use of high powered vocabulary, enabling even a 10 year of to read and make out the outlines. Reading the Hobbit will surely encourage readers young and old alike read more of his work; like Yours truly how's already bought the Lord of the Rings Trilogy!
