I bought the EZ after a micro market research. I had a light, self starting, gearless scooter in mind for my wife. The hero Puch EZ fitted nicely to this description. The deciding factor over the Kinetic style, Bajaj Spirit and TVs scooty was its price tag, wheel base, ground clearance and ground to seat height. However my problems started soon after I bought it.
The Kmpl started at a low 20 and after the first few services rose to a measly 30 (far below the rated 50 kmpl). On enquiry at the dealers they informed that the 50 kmpl was for a start to finish ride on a smooth, level road with no stops (at least that was what I understood. Presently it is averaging 33kmpl.
Any product is as good as the after sales service it receives. I realised too late that the dealers were only interested in selling (full stop!). Many a time I have had a run in with the dealer who is always on the offensive and rude to a extent. Threats to write to the parent company does not carry much water with him.
The engine layout is a disaster. To access the carburetor everything below the seat has to be opened. My personal experience has been that I get stranded on the road after almost every service. To make matters no scooter repair/service shop in the city I live is willing to lay his hand on the EZ. The headlight also dims considerably as soon as the hand is taken off the accelerator.
So to summarise I advise anyone on the lookout for a scooter matching the description in the first para, to look elsewhere.
