I simply fall in love with things, which are off the beaten track. But then don’t we all…. Hazaaron Khwahishen Aisi is such a movie. Off beat, real and of the dark times India lived through
read Emergency. It is basically the story of 3 friends – Siddharth played by Kay Kay, Geeta- Chitranganda Singh and Vikram played by Shiney Ahuja. It is a story of how the paths of these three criss-cross each other during those turbulent times.

The film starts with letters to Geeta and her replies, then we are taken to their college years where Vikram is an influential guy with affiliations in the youth congress. Geeta is dating Siddharth and matches his ideology on socialism, sketchy resemblance to the JP movement here and there and the rise of Naxallite movement. Vikram plays a good friend to geeta although he knows she is unattainable. 4 years down the line Vikram has become a political fixer and wields power. We have shady resemblence to Sanjay Gandhi, Mrs Gandhi all put in very precariously.

On the other hand Siddharth has become a revolutionary working in Bihar and Geeta is married to an IAS officer. Vikram bumps into Geeta at a party. And later also discovers that she is still secretly seeing Siddharth. What happens next is one adventure Now here is where the story starts turning into a good potential potboiler but only simmers. I suggest you all to watch this. It is a story set in a time at least when I wasn’t born but a lot worth knowing. All MASALA MOVIE LOVERS –avoid!

This is one movie that is thought provoking. It is mostly set in the most backward areas of India as well as the most powerful what an Irony. Watch out for Shiny Ahuja- this guy has got potential he does shine through. Pros: Powerhouse performance by all 3 protagonists. Chitranganda is the next Smita Patil for sure. No grease paint, no rose tinted glasses here it is for sure rooted in reality.Gripping story Cons: Could have done with some editing is a bit too slow at times.
