what happens when a mother doesn’t feel anything, doesn’t sense her son’s agony of dying.

This movie is clearly a theatre like movie, that means, no stupid models acting as actors, no nach n gana, not 3 hrs. long…

Jaya Bachchan, is the mother of Brati.
Anupam Kher, is arrogant, chauvinist, uncaring father of Brati.
Nandita Das, is caring, self-determining, Independent, liberated, is the love of Brati’s life also a partner in the group.

So who is Brati?

Joy Sengupta, {Brati,} a Naxalite ( Member of Communistic Group in India) _ I think >
A idealist, dreamer, cared so much for his mother’s trouble.
Brati was killed by some people who were against the whole Naxalite Group.

Movie begins with a mother getting a call (that no parent wants to hear) – A call from Police Morgue.
Brati’s name is nowhere to be seen in any newspaper or news. Nobody will ever knew that there was ever a Brati, who was killed at a young age.

Brati’s death haunts Jay Bachchan, with only one thought

“Brati, yeh kaise ho gaya, mei ek maa hokei bhi apnei betei ki pareshaniya nahi samaj payi. Tum mujhse kya kya boltey thei aur mei sabh kuch mazak mei lei leti thi. Aur jab tum apni aakhri saans lei rahei thei mei aaram sei so rahi thi. Kyu nahi mujhe koi ehsaas hua ki tum koi musibat mei ho. Kyu…kaisi maa hui mei”

Story is a journey of a mother who has so many Farz (as a mother, as a wife, as a woman) who goes back to the friends of her son’s or just people who knew him to get to know him after his death. Meanwhile, other family members like Anupam Kher and his sisters, were ashamed for the fact that Brati was associated with the controversial group.

At end, a mother witnesses Brati’s friend’s murder, and does everything possible in to hold on to the murderer….at end, she says,

“brati, tumhare jaanei kei baad yaha kuch nahi badla hai, phir sei ek aur jawan ki mauth…per mainei uskei kaatil ko jaanei nahi diya. Jab bhi mei tumharei koi dost sei milti hui, mujhei aisa lagta hai ki ek aur brati ka janam ho raha…tumhari badi yaad aati hai...brati…”


Clearly, movie is made very well, this might be my first artistic theatrical kind of movie. So I found the movie very slow, but it was made and directed well.
Performances by all, be it Jaya Bachchan (Maa), Anupam Kher (Papa), Joy Sengupta (Brati), Nandita Das, Seema Biswas (Somu’s mother), Milind Gunaji ( Police officer).


Movie is definitely worth once a watch. Its really a good film.
Only con that I found in the movie was..it showed to much torture. Which I really don’t like .

Oh yeah! 1084 is the number that was given to Brati’s dead body, cause his face was unimaginably messed up.

P.s.- I have no idea why I named this topic “Naam Gum Jayega” may be cause I was listening to that song just now. But I think this name is kinda relevant to the movie….cause his name was nowhere to be found not in any obituaries.
