Offered said beer at great Indian restaurant in Hobart. Also ordered nice unwooded local chardonnay. The bottle looks pretty innocent, but within a few gulps have discovered one of the World's truly great beers.

Used to chemical and sterile flavoured brown waters? This baby knocked the socks off most of the regional beers and has me hankering for a local provider.

I would say, (in my humble opinion as an Englishman who has travelled, and likes beer) this is possibly the best, full flavour, mouth mashing beer I have had since sampling some of the New Zealand mico-breweries winter wonders.

Needless to say the wine was left to it's own devices whilst I sampled more Haywards 5000.

I have grown up on legendary small bitters like 'Ruddles county' (Leicestershire/Rutland) and others. Most of the Lager type beers were imported or brewed under licence and pretty much tasted the same. Even the 'boutique' beers in bottles were the same old labels. The only flavour this little beauty reminds me of is an imported strong beer from Belgium that the Old Dad of an ex- Girlfriend gave me once.

So it's like an ex-colonial beer that has the strength of imported, better flavour and more social cache as it is pretty rare down here? who else has heard of it?
