On the morning of the day I went to watch Hanuman, I read a review which said ?Hanuman is a good movie but it does not have the power to lure children away from their Cartoon Network. ?. For a moment, I wondered. But, all my doubts disappeared the moment we reached the cinema hall.

Pawanputra Hanuman has the power !

And he sure packs in enormous power in his punch ! Every child worth his Mc Donald?s Cheeseburger and double French fries was standing there outside the hall, waiting impatiently for the magical gates to open up.

Right at the entrance of the hall was a massive cut out of a kiddy Hanuman with his gada, looking oh so cute ! That little guy had enough charm to generate mass hysteria among his little fans who were beyond control as they almost gate crashed the show. Mercifully, the gates opened up soon enough and we were almost propelled forward by the crowd ? without any effort from our side. That sure beats Newton?s second law of motion.

The show began amidst thunderous applause by the tiny tots. ?What enthusiasm !? I thought.

The Movie

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------

The movie covers the adventures of Hanuman- right from his birth to the point when Ramais reinstated the King of Ayodhya after killing Ravana.Baby Hanuman is the cutest kid I ever saw- chubby, playful and naughty. He whooshes around, disturbing sages in deep meditation and even attempts to eat the sun, thinking it?s a mango ! He is enormously pampered by his parents and just about anyone he encounters. Yet, amidst all these games, Hanuman keeps his focus on his goal ? to grow up and serve Rama ! You will find yourself feeling touched with his devotion and single minded dedication to Rama . You will find his quiet determination almost inspiring. You will feel awed by his actions and courage. Apart from Hanuman, all the characters of Ramayana, like Rama, Laxman, Sita, Ravana, Kumbhkaran, Meghnath, Vibhishan, Bali, Sugreev etc.are seen.

Mukesh Khannais the voice of the senior Hanuman and he does a good job ? he laces his voice with humour whenever required (I did not know that Hanuman has such a good sense of humour !). Through this movie Hanuman comes across as not just powerful but very sharp and intelligent too !

Music

----------------------------

The music (Tapas Relia) is absolutely brilliant. ?Mahabali Maharudra?is a beautiful composed, wonderfully rendered song ? sung by as many as seven singers ? Shaan, Sonu Nigam, Palash Sen, Kailash Kher, Madhushree, Sneha Pant and Sapna Mukherjee. This song appears many times ? at the birth, at the end, at all high points of the movie and is instrumental in elevating the whole show to a new, sublime plane altogether. The second song that I liked immensely is ?Akdam Bakdam? (Shravan)which is sung by baby Hanuman while he is playing pranks and generally having fun.

The most hilarious scene in the movie is the introduction of Kumbhakaran, who is shown sleeping since the last six months and is being roused desperately by a dozen men so that he can go and fight Rama.

Seeing that, the six year old who has inherited my gene pool piped up ?Why is Kumbhakaran so fat ? Is it because he eats a lot of junk food ??

Generation Next meets Hindu mythology ! Interesting results, obviously.

My recommendation

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------

Do watch it ! Even if you are not a kid anymore (I still am !). And if you feel tempted to shout ?Jai Shree Ram !? like the tiny tots around you every time some earth shattering event occurs in the movie, don?t be surprised. I am warning you - the mood is infectious !
