Saw saw the cute looking Bajrangbali in the poster and thought, chalo, lets see this one. None of my friends were even remotely interested, so I walked in alone.

The movie tells the story of our God in Ape form, Hanuman [voice over- Mukesh Khanna], the son of Anjana and Kesari, born as a blessing from Vayu dev. [Wonder why nowadays nobody is born as a blessing of gods...]

Plot

Hanuman, who got supernatural powers by blessing of gods, was naughty and pestered everyone a lot. He gets cursed by one hermit that he would forget all his powers. So in a blink of an eye, he becomes a normal Vanar. He loafs around chanting Ram Nam till he meets a dethroned ape king Sugreeva, and the duo soon run into Ram and Laxman comes looking for Sita abducted by the then Sri Lankan prime minister [or king or whatever] Ravana TenheadNayage. So Ram & Laxman say, come on old chaps, lets help each other. Ram kills Sugreeva's brother cum nemesis Bali and gives Sugreeva the land and his wife back. Sugreeva in return sends all the chimps to all corners of the world to look for Sita. Finally Hanuman , reminded of his powers by the old bear-vanar Jambavan, jumps across the ocean, lands in in Srilanka , finds Sita, burns half the city down and lets Ram know of the situation. Then comes the war, Ravan and team are vanquished ,and finally the team comes back with Sita ma...

What's new in the story? nothing. Mistakes apleanty, but maybe it might be to make the kids understand the story. For eg, Hanuman was struck down by an alarmed indra when he jumped towards the sun thinking that it is a fruit. It was because Indra wanted to save the sun and not because of the snide comments from Rahu that Hanuman will take Indra's simhasan.

How is the script?Major kiddish. Throughout the whole movie, I have seen only a single scene that evoked at least a giggle from the kids sitting in the theater.

How the plot proceeds? Super fast, leaving many scenes to be savoured unsatiated. Unnecessary scenes given more importance [the scene when hanuman goes to little ram, disguised as a trick monkey], scenes of massive importance mentioned as if it is an essay written as 3 marks question [like the scenes of Pathal Ravan, Sanjeevani etc]

Animation- just ordinary. There was another Ramayan made with some japanese animation company. That was 10 times better...I went in expecting at least something of our good old doordarshan jungle book, but this comes nowhere to those standards. If you are a kid of less than 10 years, you will enjoy it. Otherwise, it is just disappointing.

Music The title song by Palash (Euphoria), Shaan, Sonu Nigam and team is good. Akdam bakdam by a kiddy voice (Shravan) is also a good tune, sung beautifuly. Over all, the music is neat...

One thing about the movie needs to be commended. The attempt from Sahara India to create awareness of the puranas to the kids. In the frenzied run towards westernization, at least movies like this will keep bits and peices of our epics in the new generations' memories. Expecting more purana movies, [but with more standard] from Sahara...

All I can say is, if you have a kid, go with him, he will get something out of it. Dont go with your girlfriend and ruin an evening....
