Half Girlfriend written by Chetan Bhagat, is quite a good novel to read. It can be understood easily by its writing style. Most interesting thing in this novel is the perspective of love which is common in today's world. Love is not seen as an emotion in the relationship instead of making out. It appears in the novel when Madhav, the protagonist, proposes Riya to make her his girlfriend but she refuses and
takes him only as a friend. Later she agrees to be half girlfriend of Madhav in order to understand the relation more than friendship. But Madhav demands to get physical and says "Deti hai to de, warna katle".
offended by his obscene ultimatum, Riya parts company with him.
This statement has its relevance
and can be considered true with the reference of modern relationship. Madhav is passionate and obsessive who has no respect for woman's emotion(Riya).
Another thing is division between English and Non-English type which is quite acceptable in today's era. This is true to be accepted that we are more likely to talk with those people who are fluent English speakers. In this novel, Madhav is a rural boy from Bihar who can not speak English fluently. On the other hand, Riya is a high class English speaking rich Delhi girl.
Here I would like to mention one thing that there should not be this kind of division in the society on the ground of language. Some social issues such as domestic violence, child abuse and so on are raised in this novel which exist in present time.
