This is one of the books on which bollywood movie in made named same as book Half Girlfriend. The story of the book is about a boy Madhav Jha and a girl Riya Somani. There is huge difference between of them in case of lifestyles, money, English speaking ability and many more. So the story starts with Madhav Jha, a young boy from Dumraon, Bihar. He came to Delhi for taking admission in St.Stefens. St.Stefens is very famous college in Delhi and also famous for it's compulsion to speak in English. As Madhav is a rural guy, he doesn't able to speak in English properly. But instead of this, he get admission to College because of Sports Quota. During his selection match, he saw Riya for the first time. He instantly falls in love with her. But he is afraid of talking to her. So during her basketball match, he gave her some suggestions about the game so that her team can win. This tips really help her in the game, so she thanked him for the tips. Riya Somani belongs to very rich family and she speaks English very fluently. Riya has a dream of becoming a stage singer and perform in front of audience. After some meetups with Riya, both become good friends. But Madhav started loving in the first meeting. So during the story, when the were studying at Madhav's room, he wants to be get physical with her. But she resist him, he says "Deti hai to de, warna Katle". This makes her angry and sad. She stops talking to him or even answering him. After some years got married to her childhood friend and went to London. And Madhev went to his hometown and started to work with his mother for the school. As the condition of the school is not so good, he requested MLA of his native to give them some money for the school, but he refuses. But he got a news that Bill Gates in coming to visit his hometown, and he can make some funds from Gates foundation. But for that he has to give speech in English. So during the preparation for the speech he again meets up with Riya. After a success in speech, he got a letter from Riya that she has a Lung Cancer. After some years, he got a news that she is alive and in New York. So he goes there and finds her after lot of struggle. And then the story ends with their successful love life.
