On 2 of my friend’s suggestion, 3 of us went to “The Great Habib Beauty salon” at Khan Market. To begin with, we were so disappointed with the service; I was beginning to wonder what is it about Habib that makes them so popular? If an up market branch is in such deplorable state I refuse to think about the rest. Service was POOR. Price is steep and they were under employed. Imagine, they had only one hair expert, who jumped from one customer to another, all at the same time, leaving everyone who came in to snip their hair fuming.
I got my nails done and warned you, Never, ever go to HABIBS to get a manicure done. These guys have absolutely no clue about manicure. The trainee(boy who looked not more than 16) filed my nail, applied some cream on it. Did a 2 seconds clean-up, wiped it with a dry towel. Put on some local scrub, rub it a little more than a minute, wiped it with a dry towel and Bingo my manicure is done. By the way, I had asked them to do a French manicure. I sat there thinking perhaps the real manicure will start Now. To my amazement, the boy was looking for a nail paint. I told the senior lady my hands are feeling greasy because of the scrub, to which she asked the boy to get the hot towel. The hot towel was a dirty looking, covered in stain piece of an old rag. I made a face, to which the lady said, don’t worry these are only hair colors. Wow!
Finally, the overweight, extremely unfriendly girl came to paint my hands, looking annoyed that I had asked them for a French manicure. She did it in such a hurry it looked so undone. My other associates, one got her hair done, which she was fairly pleased( the only good thing that day was the lone hair expert) the other got a pedicure done, she was quite pleased too, that she got a foot massage instead.(Again a poor little boy, who seem to hardly know what pedicure is)
When we were paying the bill, I showed my hands to the hair expert, to which he look a little embarrassed looking at my already chip nails( they use those very cheap Chinese French manicure set) hence, I wasn’t surprcie it started to peel off as it got driend up. He decided to give me Rs 50 discount from the Rs 350 bill. The overweight girl looked very annoyed for the discount, but our total bill came to a little over 7000. Hair trim: Rs. 600. Haircut, colour 6500. Foot massage which they call it pedicure Rs 350. Over all experience BAD. My only advice is Go to Habib only for hair cut(not trimming) else, they are one overrated salon. I did call up those 2 people who recommended it to us and ironically, none of them had been there, they’ve only heard about it. Talk about the power of advertising! Well, at least I have been there seen it, not getting what I want - done, but that’s that!
