I bought a four-wheeler insurance from HDFC-ERGO this year through policy bazaar. There was an incident where the left side of the car got damaged, and we decided to get the car serviced in an authorized service center and claim insurance for the repairing work as well.
The concerned person from the claim department of HDFC inspected the vehicle and I received a call from the bank stating that if there were old damages to the car and if additional damages occur in the same place, the claim will get rejected or only 50% of the claim will be approved which came as a surprise to me.
At the time of purchasing the insurance, the vehicle was inspected and it was not told to us that all the existing damages must be mended/repaired, and only then full claim will be approved if any additional damages occur. I got the 0% depreciation policy and paid extra for this as well. This does not make any sense to me and was forced to withdraw the claim as spending 50% of the total cost seriously is ridiculous and getting it done by an authorized service center is going to cost a bomb. I am sorry to say if this is how the insurance companies con people by keeping them in the dark.
