It's Three years now since I am using HDFC bank as my salary gets deposits in this bank. I am using EasyShop Platinum Edge Debit card, since 2 years. I just noticed big issue in my bank statement for last quarter. The Fuel Surcharge waiver in not working.
Yes, you got it correct. You are not getting the promised feature of having this card. And still the charges of this card had increased by Rs 100+ taxes.
The promised feature 2 years ago were -(Major 4)
i. 1% cashback on every online transaction using card.
ii. Fuel Surcharge waiver for all the transactions made at Fuel stations.
iii. Rs 10 Lakh accidental death insurance.
iv. Rs. 1 lakh daily ATM withdrawal limit, and spend Rs. 2.75 lacs daily for shopping.
There are a lot of changes made in the policies(regarding Platinum Edge Debit Card)
i. Rs. 1 lakh daily ATM withdrawal limit, and spend Rs. 2.75 lacs daily for shopping.
ii. Rs. 1 cash back(upto Rs. 750/month) for every Rs 100 spent on any purchase, online or at merchant outlets, at any time of the year! Effective 01-July-14, continue earning CashBack on Debit Card* on all categories except fuel, jewellery and services like insurance, mutual funds, govt payments, Business Services etc. Cashback will not be offered on transactions undertaken at Merchant Establishments which are classified under the “Fuel”, "Jewellery" & "Services" Merchant Category Code(MCC) as defined by VISA / MasterCard. iii. Fuel Surcharge Reversal: Effective 24th November 2016, No fuel surcharge will be levied on Debit Card fuel transactions on HDFC Bank terminal.
iv. Rs 10 Lac accidental death insurance.
Issue is not with the policies, but the changes made in the policies are never informed. Since the time I am using the debit card at online merchants and at the fuel stations, I was not getting the benefits of the scheme as per my knowledge. Then I just went through the policies and got shocked. All the polices now have terms and conditions attached. And the major shock to me was removing the fuel surcharge waiver without any information. I am using my debit card every week to fill fuel in my vehicle. And the fuel surcharge is not just Rs 5-6/transaction, it is min of Rs 22-35/transaction for me. Please check your account statement to know how much fuel surcharge is getting deducted.
Not even a single message(on mobiile/email) was sent by HDFC to go through the new policies regarding the changes made in Debit and Credit card. Every month I am getting statement of the account on email, none of the email is having the description of the changes of the policies regarding the cards. Isn't it necessary to inform existing customer about the changes made?
Phone Banking/Customer Service - worst as there is no toll free number, I am getting charged as per STD calls to call helpline number. All the time you are waiting to get in touch with correspondent is charged. A usual call to helpline costs you around Rs. 25/call.
ATM Service - In Pune, most of the ATM's are cashless today(Apr 10, 2017).
Internet Banking - Its OK, nothing great to tell about it, But better than govt sector banks.
