Story:

Reading a novel is a very hard for me, especially when it is in English. Because it is very difficult to understand the basic idea of novel for end readers whom have to read the novel! But Gulliver’s Travels is an all-rounder novel, written by Jonathan Swift. Because Swift describes a very important thing in the style of child story and this quality becomes me to read this novel.

Jonathan swift mostly worked as an anonymous writer. He wrote many novels to describe his views about British politics in early eighteen century. This book was also written on same topic, "Politics of power". He explained and also criticized the policies of British government in very different style, " The style of satire". He had to create the new style because of censor policy of Queen Anne. Swift’s basic object is to deflate human pride by showing all the circumstances of human pretension, " all the stylization of cruelty, the vanities, rituals, political catchwords, meaningless controversies, which characterize man in society. "

The novel is in four parts which shows Gulliver–first among little people, then among enormous giants , then among the idealists and dreamers and finally among horses! He travels on different waters and discovers new imaginary world. He also tells about their way of living, culture, customs, festivals, rules and regulation, politics and also the nature of inhabitants.

In the first, "A voyage to Lilliput", the best part of the whole novel for me. In first chapter, he introduces himself and his family, tells us about his talent of seeking medicine and languages of different countries. Then, tells about the reasons of traveling and becoming the surgeon of ship.

In his first voyage, due to storm, the ship drowns and only Gulliver, who reaches to a shore where he finds himself as prisoner of a tiny creatures. These tiny Creatures have their own King and government. After the assurance of his polite behavior, he is given residence in the Capital of Lilliput and becomes a favourite of the court and King. He learns their language, helps the Lilliputians in different ways and also plays with children. He fights against the Blefuscu (the rival country of Lilliput) with captured their fleets.

In fact, the war between Lilliput and Blefuscu is same as England and France (Catholics and Protestants). Writer describes this situation in a much unexpected style without make anger anyone against him. But unfortunately, the few members of court feel jealously to Gulliver due to popularity in public as well as in court. Therefore he has to escape to Blefuscu, where from he makes a raft and comes back to England.

In the second voyage, Gulliver lands in the land of Giants of Brobdingnag, creature more than 60 feet in height. It is seemed same as Gulliver himself as Lilliputian; see to Gulliver, a tall and magnificent creature. He is discovered by a farmer who sells him–after earning a lot of money–

to Queen. Then he becomes a close friend to King where he knows about the country. Gulliver gives information to King about the Government of England and others different issues. One thing makes him strange is that there are only books, written on the topic of common sense, leniency and speedy justice. There is no allowed to comment on the law to anyone (Bye bye lawyers!). He only points out the complex system of getting justice of modern world in a very impressing way. From here, he comes back by luck. An eagle catches his cage like room and throws it in the open sea where he is rescued by a captain of ship.

In third part, "A Voyage to Laputa", Gulliver’s ship is attacked by robbers. Fortunately he reaches the flying island of Laputa where he sees a new era of mankind. The inhabitants of Laputa only concern with mathematics and logic. Gulliver is measured for cloths in the exact fashion. The tailor first took his altitude with a quadrant, and then described the dimension and outlines of his body by compass and scales. There is an academy full of scientists bent upon making the world a better place. For example an architect who has a contrived a new method for building houses, Gulliver is taken to Balnibari to await a Dutch trader who can take him to Japan and thence to England. He discusses the history with ghosts of historical figures. The trip is otherwise reasonably free of the incident and Gulliver returns home. Being determines to stay his home, for the rest of his days

In the last part, " A Voyage to Houyhnhnms", Gulliver becomes the captain of Ship. The Houyhnhnms is land of noble horses that live according to the laws of "nature and reasons". Shortly thereafter he meets a horse and comes to understand that the horses are the rulers and the deformed creatures ("Yahoos") are human beings in the misery form. Gulliver becomes a member of the horse’s household, and observes them. They welcome Gulliver and provide food to him. Gulliver also learns the language of horses.

He is quite happy here and in fact thinks of staying on. But the assembly of the Houyhnhnms rules that Gulliver, a Yahoo with some semblance of reason, is a danger to their civilization and he is expelled. He leaves Houyhnhnms sadly, by a Portuguese ship that returns him to England. Here he purchases two stallions and teaches them the language of Houyhnhnms while keeping away from Humans–the Yahoos at home.He largely avoiding his family and spending several hours a day speaking with the horses in his stables. This is the darkest part of the whole book and gives it a gloomy effect that does not deserve.

All in all, it is clear that Gulliver’s Travel was not written for entertainment. There are many concepts and ideas within the novel that were clearly written to challenge and trouble. Swift fulfils his aim though this novel. I think, it is very little attempt to convince the readers to read and read this novel again and again. And it is also advised for me to read novel – but – only beautiful piece of art that really able for reading!
