Hope that going well.
Today I'm going to write the review of Gulliver's Travels
Gulliver's Travels, an allegorical novel, the master piece of artsmanship, is a classic novel, penned by Swift. It is a
prose satire on society. The novel shows the human nature. An allegory is that genre that gives two level meanings; the
surface meanings and deeper meanings. Since, the novel is an allegory, it is somewhat hard to understand at first hand
because a second attempt to comprehend the real meanings is required. So most of the readers find it a piece of trash
without knowing it true worth.I grabbed the novel, went through it, surfed on the net, and now I am writing this review.
It is the travel tale of Lemuel Gulliver, the central figure of the novel. The novel consists of four Books or four
Voyages:(1) A Voyage to Lilliput, the land of Dwarfs;(2) A Voyage to Brobdingnag, the land of giants;(3) A Voyage to
Laputa, Balnibarbi, Luggnagg, Glubbdubdrib and Japan, ; and finally(4) A Voyage to the Land of the Houyhnhnms, the land of Horses far superior to human-like Yahoos.
The novel exhibits a number of historical references and incidents allegorically, for example, The Urinating of Gulliver to
extinguish the fire symbolizes Swift's grudge with Queen Anne. Flimnap is Sir Robert Walpole.Rope Dance satirizes the
awkward criteria and traditions of getting a chair in the Court. The Big-Endians and the little-Endians portray the
political and religious grudges over petty issues. The war between the Lilliputians and the Blefuscudians symbolizes the
long French-Anglo hostility.Similarly, there are scientists who put forward their impractical theories. They have knowledge
of advance level, but they are unable to use it in practical work-a-day life. They propound new theories and ideas to the amazement of people, but fail either.
The last part is the most controversial since it is ever written. For in this part Swift prefers horses to humans. He
himself says about this "to vex the world rather than divert it". He did not belittle human race but un-mask it
realistically and a realist is always a cynic.
The novel is included at the UNIVERSITY LEVEL education as well as in Competitive Exams, in the elective paper of English
Literature. To me, the novel requires our second attention. To mine the essence of the novel, we have to dig deeper than
mere scratching the surface. It is sublime, lofty an elevated.
