Story:

Today…India broke the Australian dream of a new world record, to become the first team to win 17 tests in succession.  The cricket fans of Australia were dreaming for it.  The team and the management were going all out for the ultimate win.  Still they could not make it.

Yesterday…Ethiopian marathon star Haile Gebrselassie finished the Dubai Marathon with a time 02:04:53, to cover 42 KMs 27 seconds less than the time he scored in Berlin to deny the bonus prize of $1 Million. (Still he got his prize money $250,000/-).

Guinnes book of world records show us great souls who survived such disappointments and make things happen.   I am not here to review the old record keeping book, but giving away my thoughts on breaking records. (Disclaimer)

I think I have not read any of Maxim Gorky's novels.   However, few quotes from his stories always inspired me.  The best inspirational quote I remember with me is from the great story teller.  It goes something like this   "Everybody have 10 fingers, but each one want to grab more.  Either you should be the one who have more force or the one who have more intelligence."   Swami Vivekananda is another person who asks us to develop our muscles.   He asks us to develop the muscles of steel.  Same time he urge us to reach the heights of intelligence.   Creating records is an art, skill, practice, behaviour, and thought.

I always wonder what made the Tortoise to challenge a fast running Hare.   There are two thoughts passed through my mind.  The first is that, the Tortoise must be a person who is reading self help book and the Hare a self fulfilled person.   Often I had my unsuccessful plan to write a story or even a novel on this subject, giving parallel to a highly educated professional and an uneducated villager who reaches heights and contribute to the success of human kind.  I know you will not accept the self help book reading reason since everybody knows that the self help books are yet to be translated to Tortoisian language.   The other possible reason is that may be they fixed a marathon where the route go though a big river or a sea part which the Hare cannot cross where the Tortoise can.  Whatever may be the case, given the fact that it is a story, the message it gives is equally good as the thoughts it leaves for the lethargic people.

To make a record, we have to conquer time, conquer the limitations of human body and mind.  We have to store information, intelligence, skills.  We have to practice on the skill we wish to demonstrate.   We should move the resources.   We should concentrate our thoughts, efforts and keep our calm.     The Australians lost the match before they enter the field.  They passed a negative energy among them with all the unnecessary play around where they awaken the sleeping giants like Rahul Dravid inviting the trouble.

We should not overdo ourselves for the record, but all the hardwork should be in the proportion of the formula designed for the success.   For a 400 M race or for a 42 KM marathon, it is important to know and keep the pace in place.   For Haile Gebrselassie, he was running faster than necessary in the start which made him exhausted at the end where he was suppose to give the final push for the record.   It is natural that we tend to overdo ourselves but there are many successes come in small sizes.     It is important to control and guide our energy while we should fuel the best of energy which we should keep till the last of the game.

It is natural to have criticism on you and you may not get the necessary encouragement from ordinary people.   However, we should not be discouraged by that since it is the winning quest which is asking them to push the 2nd running person.   Once we finish the race, they will come to clap for you for sure.  However, if you fall during that time they will clap more for the 2nd placed person.

Deep Desire, not a mere wish which should fill our glass of optimism.    We should talk ourselves and give the necessary push.   If there is nobody around you to support and cheer for you…. if everybody else is chanting against you….remember, it is time for you to close the door and ears for such anti slogans and repeat the success mantra which you carry all along.  It is the time to believe your plans and strategies.  It is not the time to change it.  You may change tactics.  Not strategies or plans.  That you can do for the next event, if there is one.   If you cannot win a well planned strategy, you may not be able to force a quick fix strategy.  So, believe in your plan with practical confidence and proceed.

Fighting spirit till last, but without breaking yourself is utmost important.  If you feel you are about to lose everything, go all out to take back it all.   You may lose out of it but it is a rare opportunity to experiment your possibilities which may not come often.

Success or failure, accept gracefully.  It is important.

These are the few thoughts which pass through me today and let me share it with fellow MSians.   I allowed my fingers to flow as they wish….so it is only sharing of thoughts…not well arranged.

Break all records…to create history.   Try for the best, but remember you have to outdo the best to become THE BEST!
