Where to start with this hopeless mess of a gym?
At over thirty thousand rupees for a one-year membership youexpect a reasonable level of service from your gym. Things like towels forinstance, shouldn’t cost extra.
This Gold’s Gym however, charges for everything, and I meaneverything they can think of.
If you want to use the steam room and need an extra towelit’s going to cost you rs50.
Want to use a larger locker? 500 rs a month. Want to get adrink of water from the cooler? Better bring a bottle; there are no cupsprovided. Want to have a guest along for a workout? Pay rs 400. Want to parkyour car in the empty space in front? No way. Pay rs20 to have your car driven to a parkinglot up to ten minutes away. And yes, when you leave it can be a ten-minute waitwhile someone drives your car back. I can understand valet parking, but do Ireally want someone taking my car for a ten-minute drive every morning?
The gym itself is brand new which is great, but theweightlifting room is underground in the basement. It’s lit by fluorescentcompact bulbs and felt really airless and claustrophobic. I’m not sure whoseidea it was to buy the Eagle range of weightlifting machines from Cybex, butthey felt really ungainly and cheap to me.
In the changing room the attendant literally stood in frontof the door while I changed. I soon realized why, when it opened I could seethe front desk and anyone standing there would have a full view of me as well.Really smart!
The showers alternated between hot and cold and there wasthis fan blowing cold air on me the whole time. Not comfortable.
The staff where rude and condescending. I really didn’t feelwelcome there at all. Definitely not the gym for me.
