Get a Godrej, Get a LIFE ??
I would like to narrate my frustration & the bitter
experience I had with one Indian company who self
proclaims itself as the leader in Indian markets.
Having
stayed abroad for over 8 years and having
visited several countries and worked for various
multinational companies I know the actual meaning of
’customer satisfaction’ and customer orientated’
companies and how the consumers are treated and
protected in those countries. I have experienced the
mutual trust and respect that exist between the buyer
and the seller abroad. Never in my wildest imagination
did i expect that a company like ’Godrej’ could cheat
their customers like the way they did to me. I know
that my plea will fall in deaf ears. All the more so
because it is an Indian company who thinks that Indian
customers can be easily fooled and duped and knows
very well that a customer here can never sue a company
like they can do in other countries. I think I should
not blame all the Indian companies just because one
company like ’Godrej’ practices this way of doing
business. Whatever may be the case, due to companies
like "Godrej’ other multinational companies are making
their way into Indian hearts because they keep up to
their word and knows how to keep customer expectations
and value customer satisfaction above anything else
and they live to their reputation and not misuse it.
It all started when my aged parents decided to replace
their old ’Godrej’ refrigerator to get a new one. Such
blind faith they had on ’Godrej’ that they forgot the
bitter experience they had even at the time of
purchasing their first refrigerator. Since they were
fooled with a defective ’Godrej’ refrigerator the
first time they bought it from a retailer, this time
they decided to buy only from a ’Godrej’ showroom.
Such strong values and admiration they had for this
Indian company. Poor souls. They had to pay the price
soon. Little did they understand that ’Godrej’ still
works on the same principle of providing defective
products supported by their so called fascinating
after-sales service to back up for their false
practices? My parents walked into a ’Godrej’ showroom
and chose a single door refrigerator (Cold Gold Matrix
180 lt). It had steel finish on all the sides. My aged
parents wanted to see the original unit that would be
delivered before making the payment. To which the
trained salesman (Name: Abhijit Sen, Code: 042(?)
)replied that it cannot be shown as the original unit
would be dispatched only from the factory after some
tests done on it and with a divine smile stated that
what they see is exactly what they will get and they
can blindly rely on the reputation of the
company.Saying that the salesman scribbled some code
and booked the model. Little did my aged parents had
any idea what the model they chose actually cost but
paid the price trusting the salesman & the reputation
of the company.
At the time of delivery my aged parents discovered
with a shock that the refrigerator that was delivered
was not the one that they chose. The model differed
greatly from the one they actually chose in terms of
appearance & design. Apparently it seemed that the
salesman had duped them into a higher priced model
(Pentacool ?)whereas they chose a less expensive one.
Furthermore it only had steel finish on the door and
unlike the original one that was shown to them at the
showroom, the sides of this one was dark grey in
colour. It looked as if only a steel finish coloured
door was replaced to a unit which was dark grey in
colour and it was not at all looking pleasant. My
parents complained at once and thats when the trained
salesman started exercising his skills. He denied that
they viewed any other model than this one and this was
the only model taht was displayed and with a slight
sarcasm also added that they did get a refrigerator
for the money paid. So why bother about the colour?
Thats not all. They also discovered that the cabinet
covering above the door was cracked and also the water
discharge tray does not stay in place. No wonder, such
rigid test it went through! Now we know why ’Godrej’
proudly announces such good after-sales service. To
cover up the false salesmanship they deliver and
inferior product they manufacture. It also became
clear why ’Godrej’ always dispatches their product
from their factory instead from the showroom itself so
that they can manipulate the models. Which means you
choose a less expensive model but their trained
salesman will quote the price of a higher model and
then they will dupe you into buying an assembled unit
with flaws. Its so very easy to get away with all
these!! My poor old parents. They know that their
complaints will never be paid any attention. They know
that their judgement will be put to question as there
is no way to prove what they actually chose at the
time of purchase. Dear Mom & Dad. How the values
around us are changing rapidly. But dont worry. I will
go to all extent to put an end to it. I promise that
you wont have to bear this insult for too long. I will
get rid of this refrigerator soon and we will walk
into a showroom of Electrolux, Whirlpool, Samsung or a
LG and I will make you choose a model of your choice
and have the same one delivered in front of your eyes.
I am dying to see the smile on your faces again. The
smile of getting what you expect and pay for.
