Little did I know of the horrifying experience with Godgrej Interio when I convinced my spouse of buying the furniture from Godrej Interio’s Okhala showroom. Many readers would see it to be another grumble about some normal experience and vomiting of frustration.
It’s neither, It is an experience to be shared to help you take an informed decision before you spend your money.
It was my third experience with Godrej interiors and very different from the first two. The first one was about a delayed delivery of one Malayasian made queen size bed (Lajpat Nagar dealer) that was thrown out after 6 months and the second one was a coffee table from the Kirti Nagar showroom (regretted the quality again). However the before I bought the mentioned coffee table I had ordered a sofa and two almirahs (storewel) from Godrej’s okhala showroom.
“Godrej” is accidentally a brand name and in absence of any alternative (as of now) it becomes a compulsion at times. Now with my repeated experiences and with the entry of known brands like “Ikea”, I would possibly never utter the name again.
I had booked a “couch” and two “Storewells” for about hundred thousand rupees on 01-05-2013 at its Mathura Road (New Delhi) company outlet with a written promise that the items will be delivered before 25th of May 2013 or will be cancelled. After paying the whole amount in advance, I took a written commitment owing to my previous awful experience with Godrej, coupled with my travel plan.
While the sofa was delivered after lot of follow up and in a chaotic way, the show room sales person had responded with an unconfirmed delay in delivery of the Almirahs. This puts my plans in peril. I feel nonsensically cheated and developed mistrust with such unprofessional conduct at its outlets.
I did not get the storewells as promised and had to leave out of delhi.
I wrote a letter to its COO (Anil Mathur) at the addres given in their website, mentioning my annoying experience. I did it after I failed to reach anyone in their office (Mumbai & Delhi) nor did I get any mail id of a responsible senior official.
I received a call on 13th of June (one and half months) to give a time for delivery. Thought I can comeback for a day on 16th (Sunday) to manage few other work and again return back on 17th. It was confirmed to be delivered on 16th and I booked my flight (to & fro).
After reaching Delhi on 15th evening I called the guy (who confirmed the delivery) who said he does not know anything about it and I have to contact the showroom only. I tried all numbers without any luck. To add to this frustration the letter sent through BLUEDART to the COO was returned with remarks “INCOMPLETE ADDRESS”.
I went to it’s showroom and found the same guy. After again all sort of nonsense talk I had to call the police. I showed all the documents and calls to make the police pressurize them to deliver it on the same day. While writing this experience I got a call that it will be delivered before 10 pm. I am still not sure.
Here is the experience in nutshell:
The qualities of the products are not worth the money but you have a little option on brand.
There are few good brands arriving in India now (Ikea etc.)
You will not be sure of delivery time and most importantly the guys do not care once advance is taken.
One needs to google the type of experience from others before making a buying decision.
They take complete advance amount and in all likelihood they place order with some outsourced manufacturer on your money.
Nowhere you will find it’s COO or any senior official mail id or contact number. Even the store guys say “WE DON’T KNOW”.
Anyone who has a good experience with the product or service after a year of usage may post opinion here or a buying decision should be on a feedback basis.
I was having a good perception about Adi Godrej and his group before this incessant experience. Now I seriously feel their integrity is seriously questionable. They are good in making Locks and they must use these locks to close the interio showrooms.
