Gitanjali is the book for which Rabindranath Tagore received the Nobel prize in literature, first in Asia. Actually its an anthology, a collection of songs written by Tagore. The original one is written in Bengali and that consists of 157 poems/ songs. Gitanjali is the book for which Rabindranath Tagore received the Nobel prize in literature, first in Asia. Actually its an anthology, a collection of songs written by Tagore. This is not a story type book. Gitanjali had a huge impact on the poetry society in India after it got released. Though I would not say that it's the nest work of Tagore. To me his short stories are more attractive to me- basically he was the creator of that particular short story genre in India. By reading the poems you will feel the offerings to God but no poem is inclined to any particular religious view. Its completely up to you, whom and how you want to worship. That's why he is one of the worlds greatest poets of all time. His thinkings and views are much more relevant now a days. Rabindranath Tagore later published more than twenty additional volumes of his poetry in English translation, Gitanjali remained one of his most beloved books. Though Gitanjali is also filled with sensual imagery, there is no doubt that Tagore's subject is the is the relationship between a human being and the divine. So as the conclusion, I can tell that it is an awesome one, a must book to read, excellent book, masterpiece for collection.
