Pros:
good revus, good writers, adds to ur vocab, quite clean, wide range of info
Cons:
M2M, trust & distrust often abused by members, too many topics on MS itself

PS: To be read in MS context only. Taken care not to name MSians [don’t we all know ourselves? ;-)] Still if reference is too obvious, its purely intentional, humor & timepass being the intention.

Par
Kyon?
1) The aam aadmi is an observer like the abdul who sang “aate jaate huye main sab pe nazar rakhta hoon…” & observations need to be recorded.
2) Aam aadmi series of writings on MS & community centre topics isn’t complete without this. Wait, coming soon is a take on M2M ;-)
3)I have been stranded at the non-striker end at 49 for sometime. Its my turn to get to my 50. isn’t 50 runs(revus) out of 51 balls(writings) with strike rate of 98.039215686274509803921568627451 % good enough? ;-) I will be acknowledging the crowds cheers at the end of this revu by raising my bat (keyboard) & helmet (mouse) ;-)

MSians: Without this species MS wud be a desert. Except for few devils n angels etc most MSians are humans. ;-) thanks to uniqueness of each one of us & the diversity of India we can see few patterns of MSians which under binomial nomenclature can be called subspecies. For time pass lets try to classify MSians.

Based on Gender: we find 3 kinds. A) the mankind – the male of the species
B) The more deadly of the species – the womankind ;-)
C)In-Betweens – they seem to have an identity crisis about gender. Here you will find men masquerading as women & girls registering as boys. Thanks to the anonymity internet provides this is an increasing type & MS being no exception has its share. They may not clap, lets give them big hands ;-)

Further A & B above can be classified according to many parameters. Say for example age group. WLOG we can assume with age there will come some maturity which will in turn reflect in writing. lets divide them as ‘Young’ n ‘Not so Young’ for too many classifications spoil the fun. And there will always be exceptions.

How 2 identify: Consider a ‘young female’ – usually in the age range of 14-22, u read their profile/writing/comments, its very clear that they are Gen X, Y, Z etc, sound very teeny, girly. Give an impression that they are bubbly, chirpy, kind, friendly, restless. Few are honest to say negative things abt themselves like I m lazy, I get irritated etc. they are seen writing abt movies, music, or girly topics like ‘gift for..’ type of topics. You will see a lot of Wow, kewl etc in their lingo. Quite often u see them use special characters like *~ etc in their titles, also if MS were a family they wud be the younger sister material – encourage them

on the contrary ‘not so young female’ – shows greater maturity, writes on topics that needs a lot of thinking, many times draws flak, brickbats, writes also on controversial topics. If she happens to be a married woman read her carefully. Their each sentence sometimes is 3 sentences compressed, carrying a lot more meaning. Their profiles are very to the point. In whatever they write there is an element of conviction, of experience, maturity & humour.

Similarly among the menkind there is very little that differentiates categories. The young ones are very similar to their female counterparts except that they show an affinity in writing on manly topics like sports, bikes, cars etc. a subspecies of them wud be ‘homo erectus’ who are probably the ones to abuse M2M, member abuse etc. The not so young man writes on a wide range of topics, gadgets, advice, marriage etc. they are allrounder material.

Survivors & Soosiders: survivor is a MSian who despite all criticisms always writes what he wants to say. They are not bothered about someone distrusting them, giving SU, NU..they just keep writing. I saw 2 sooside notes on MS. Both of them were similar –‘I am leaving MS bcos of so n so’. I was one of the many who pitied them. They perhaps thought everyone wud say things they wanted to hear, they cud please everyone etc –which brings us to the aspect of writing, so lets leave the classification here ;-)

Writing: when I hadn’t browsed MS well enough I did a mistake many had done before. –that is to think MS as any other blog site. I read someone wailing about something & some other writing something unrelated to topic. I wrote my epic-comic ‘the mind of the unmarried man’, posted only to be removed by MS content police. Koyi gal nahin, I will make it see light of the day somewhere else on net ;-) – otherwise my strike wud have been 100%. Its good that MS removes unrelated, obsecene, offending revus –it helps to keep the site clean.

despite being a thankless job MS has its share of good writers. For most writers here its ‘likhte likhte love ho jaaye’. Many have very good language, ideas but do not really write. Some who write are not sure why they are writing, perhaps they don’t have a talisman. Some declare their narrow-mindedness by writing on controversial topics by only one perspective. Similarly there are who only cover the bad aspects of a product only even though it had 4/10 good things. And then there are some who miss the thin line between reviewing a product & canvassing for it. Rather than sharing their experience with the product they end up blindly advertising it. Still any effort at writing needs to be encouraged bcos rarely did anyone write a nobel winning book straightaway ;-)

RRCing: perhaps the easiest part, hence mostly done wrongly. I have seen some profiles which can be called ‘zero profiles’ – everything on the right column revus, read, rated comented all = 0, why did they become member? Is it a conspiracy to show swollen membership numbers? Then there are those who are the eternal listeners(readers), they just RRC, they never write? There are people who diligently read everything, rate & comment. Then there are who just read. If only they can rate or comment it will be a feedback to the writer. Then there are who give negative rating just bcos they are prejudiced. I read someone writing in their revu ‘there are some who always give me NU..”. don’t expect VU from all, keep your expectation to low, then you wont be disappointed. Ideally once u have done the writing never bother abt rating. It will be useful to someone, sometime, even if 100yrs down the line ;-)

MS: though MS hasn’t made any changes that MSians have been asking these days they are coming up with contests, Perhaps to keep the MSians interested. And then there are topics whose only purpose is to keep category of MSians interested. That movies & music & cricket n bollywood have a grip over people is evident from the amount of writing on these topics. Many writers display that they are celebstuck when they write stuff taken directly out of tabloids. I think its time MS redo their sort technology. Recently when I went to starwrtiers I found few there who hadn’t written anything in nearly 2yrs. MS, Waqt ke saath chalo, aage bhi nahin, peeche bhi nahin ;-)

last words: so yet another scribbling comes to an end. Few have told me that I write long. Considering their opinion let me end this even though there is still space left. Comments welcome, so are brick-bats. I will use bricks for construction, with bat we can play cricket ;-)
