Hyundai Company-Fitted CNG Kits
May 17, 2014 01:06 PM 200780 Views

I have been driving a Hyundai i10 with factory-fitted CNG for over four years now(42000 kms).  The first two years was a pleasant experience and had pretty much no issues with the kit and later on there were frequent issues such as mis-firing(especially during rainy season), problems with switching to CNG-mode from petrol etc., A major problem with hyundai company-fitted CNG kits is the lack of trained manpower in their service centers.

Almost all service centers have visiting CNG technicians(or none at all!) who are available one or two days a week and you need to coordinate as per their schedule!  While these guys are capable of taking care of minor problems and tune-up, they refer you to the CNG company which has a tie-up with Hyundai for CNG kits for all major repairs and your local CNG guys cannot repair the factory-fitted kits as they do not have all the required infrastructure to diagnose the problem and service it!

I came to know about this only now as I am facing major problems with running my car on CNG and had to disconnect it from CNG to run it smoothly. I could not believe that there is just one CNG service center in the entire NCR to service company-fitted kits and this service center on Mathura Road works five and half days a week!

They pretty much advise you to not come on Saturday(half-day working). Therefore, for any major CNG problems, you need to take your car to this one and only service center on a working day(meaning you lose your working day! Unless you have a driver). As a result, I have not had time to get the problem sorted out and running my car on petrol!

Hyundai is fooling people by selling company-fitted CNG at exorbitant price in the  name of warranty! You are unlikely to face any problem in the first one or two years anyway no matter where you buy it! Most of the government approved CNG vendors can install imported CNG kits in any car for pretty much half the price and will provide you service at your doorstep at your convenience!

I hope people who are thinking about hyundai company-fitted CNG will make the right decision after reading this review.
