Oh my dear Errawat!!
May 14, 2007 01:18 PM 9326 Views

Alas! A pessimist I am! Many of my MS friends were rejoicing on the super techno hob-knobs less than a century away at MS! As read and saw MS future was rocking to the T! I was happy because future seems so bright jerks, nerds, saints, crusaders, self destructors all getting their shelf space!  But worried I was already, since coming across two hot reviews on Global Warming made me think in the bigger perspective, what beyond these dignitaries? What will be the fate of mammals in the era, we are rejoicing about! Because never in the above review the writer mentioned anything about “budhijivi” mammals, I couldn’t help my worries much!

I clicked on Google to find what they have to say about our future, I started from the biggest and grandest! Elephants, read all the pages one after another and the more I read my heart sank further!

All the reports gave sirens with revolving red lights as seen in some Bond Flick when the poor chap unknowingly steps on some hidden sensor! “Voiiin Voiiin Voiiin” the sound alert- and then the robotic voice- caution, caution- past was perfect # future is no bright! The survey reports and studies about this official carrier of “Lord Indra”- made me gasp with pity for this great mammal, where are they heading to? Reports screamed-

When Hannibal crossed the Alps to go to war in the 3rd century BC, he was assisted by domesticated African elephants. At that time, elephants were widespread from the Cape to Cairo, with numbers probably in the tens of millions. Today the elephant occupies less than one quarter of its former range, and there are now less than 610 000. Counted till 1989

But that was then! the numbers right now are far more alarming and near destruction- mass destruction! Uncontrolled Hunting, loss of habitat, rapid deforestation, rising Ivory price although it’s selling banned worldwide, is taking a heavy toll on this majestic animal. As more habitat is lost to human activities, elephants will soon remain only in protected areas. Their population estimate is more like guesses than a profound data base. This mammal has a very bleak probability of surviving the next century!

However conservation wings are trying their best to save this giant mammal at least for few more centuries, the concept of AZA “accredited zoo and aquarium”is taking shape fast worldwide and scientists, environmentalists, ecologists are giving their level best efforts to give a shot in the arm for survival of this poor animal! Oh mii god just days before I was hearing from the mouth of one of the same species how happy he was about living free and gay in the sci-fi era not so around! I just wish the AZA authorities do something to make his dream, come true! My sincere recommendation!

And for now my friends lets trigger a movement to keep more roads, lanes, by-lanes, litter zones, public urinals, flyovers and if possible more human beings named after this majestic mammal. My heartiest congratulations to them who have already added a prefix or suffix- elephant with their names! I will be glad to see more of Elephant Singhs, Hathi Prasads, *Elephant Singh Ahluwalias, Elephant Sharmas, Elephant Chaurasias, Elephant Prakash Guptas. But err. few enthusiasts have jeopardized their own future- experimenting with the word elephant….some thing on the lines of “Errawat “ who hovered amid clouds in top speed! Because, because, because the AZA authorities** marking them as one of the rarest species will waste no time to make them sign the admission form for AZA which is of course for free!

So Oh my dear “Errorrawat” enjoy the free days the best way you can “kyunki kal freedom ho na ho!”
