The Gaylord Restaurant at Churchgate, Veer Nariman Road, is an aristocratic Restaurant. It is opposite the Stadium House at the Veer Nariman Road. It is quite different from the Gaylord at the Connaught Place, New Delhi. The former is in the commercial capital of India, whereas the latter is in the political capital of India. In terms of customers, the Bombay Gaylord attracts a distinct rich clientele - Business Executives, Bankers, Film Stars and Businessmen, both traditional and modern. Even it attracts many foreigners.
During 1968-70, I was living in Bombay, and working for the Agricultural Finance Corporation Limited, as its Information Specialist. Our Office was located at the Stadium House at Veer Nariman Road. Just opposite the Gaylord. From Vile Parle (East), where I was living, I used to come to Churchgate by the fast Electric Train. And before going to my office, I used to have a cup of hot Coffee at the Gaylord. So, it was Gaylord, which was introducing the right mood in me for the rest of the day till 5 pm, when I used to catch the train for Vile Parle.
So, Gaylord was my friendly neighbour, always ready to serve with a smile. Its cuisines have Indian, Gujarati, Continental and Sea Food. It has an attached Bake Shop.It has Ac and non-Ac, and accepts most Credit Cards. It has Valet Parking, and has home delivery facilities. It is open upto 12 midnight.
The most popular food served here is the Gujarati Thali, purely vegetarian. And fully satisfying. The concluding item is the Gaylord Ice Cream of different flavours. My favourite has always been the Choco Bar.
An average meal could cost about Rs.100/- only. The waiters are fashionable and always serve with humility. The decor is simple, yet aristocratic, and music is good, sans film music. Cutlery and linen used are of best quality.
It is Bombay which brought me Good Luck, because from here I went as the UNESCO Adviser to Indonesia. Gaylord also had its due share in bringing me Good Luck. Yes, Gaylord brought me Good Luck !
