It’s all about affairs and affairs! All producers and directors are jumping on only ONE story these days. This one is a foolish-illogical-confusing story jam-packed with Turkish melodies and naughty ladies. Inject to that all the splendid beaches from Mauritius and all their hot models. Still, it’s hilarious!

Did they think about writing a story?

Akshay Kumar and John Abraham are photographers. One is honest and of course, the other one is dishonest. Since it is a Hindi movie, one needs to get married soon. So rope in a fiancée – Rimmi Sen- for Akshay, who is a well educated girl and she is always wearing churidhars. So cute!

Situations crop up where John gets a promotion due to his dishonest work and land up in America for the first half of the movie. The movie is based in Port Louis, Mauritius. The first half focuses on how Akshay wants to transform his life into an interesting aviating game! His whole life will turn around flights, airports and note books when he meets three fine looking and ravishing air hostesses. There is always one friend helping him – Rajpal Yadav - and also a cook – Paresh Rawal- for him in his apartment in La Bourdonnais Hotel in Port Louis. The cook is bizarre and with an odd sense of humour. His speciality is not to cook good food but to throw them! First half is all about juggling with three stunning girls minus John.

Second half is where the movie really starts and the story takes shape. John is back to Mauritius. Of course, he manages to stay at his best friend’s place. This is when the masala gets garam and the whole series of comedies and mini-jokes start to come out. The second half is fast, out-of-control and disorienting. John makes things stir and every one is dipped into this garam masala. The last 20 minutes is non-stop comedy!

Actors Act and Actresses Act as well? Hmmmmm…

Akshay Kumar gets the best juicy comic bits. His facial expressions are out-of-this-world. If you are watching in a theatre, you will catch his whole set of teeth enabling you to count all of them because it’s too repetitive. He is never tired, never sitting but always lying, always flirting, always inventing new stories, always explaining himself and always talking. He is the first one to laugh at his jokes. At one point, he was the only one laughing in the whole hall!

John Abraham is the type of quite shy but always planning something in mind. He is not funny but acts as a bridge to start a joke. He is jealous of his best friend and creates stirs.

Paresh Rawal looks like a crook cook. He has rules but they are always being broken. He will throw food in the bin or out of the window if you don’t want it. He is always complaining and is never satisfied.

Rajpal Yadav looks exactly like a Mauritian. He likes to drink and is easily bribed. Jumping is his forte and being a mechanic, he is seen lots of time driving.

Daisy, Neetu and Nargis just have to wear a few sexy uniforms, have a good hairdo and dance a few songs. And yes, learn a few lines by heart. They are okay. Neha Dhupia looks good as the receptionist with sexy glasses. If her movie career flops, there is always a big future for her as a receptionist. Rimmi Sen is almost invisible.

A Low Budget Movie: Locations Say All!

All the songs are shot on the coastal beaches and cinematography is excellent. Statuettes, new beach furniture and attractive colours have been used to sell Mauritius as well. The blue lagoon and the city are wonderfully shot. However, most of the scenes are shot in the airport duty free shops (about 10 times), the apartment (85%), the Caudan Waterfront (Port Louis), the corridor of the flat and also in a mechanic garage called ‘Garage Satish’!

Music: Jukebox, Music Box, Remixes or Plagiarisms – It’s all the same

Pritam made a big honour and a big comeback at copying tunes in this one. Three songs (Ada, Chori Chori and Dil Samundar) are direct lifts! The music is catchy but it’s not fitting at some places. Check out my music review for some shocking music masala! And you think that only Anu Malik copies! Pritam is now the new Big Daddy at lifting!

Dialogues: Common Dialogues…

Imagine you met two old buddies on a train and you start cracking some jokes about college and girls. Well, there is no more than that except for some punchy lines by Paresh Rawal. He delivers on target with an attitude as a cook. Akshay gets the most memorable lines!

Best Scenes

  1. First time meeting with Neha Dhupia and in the restaurant! Wach out for the bill paying scene!

  2. Rimmi Sen catching Akshay Kumar photographing a model in a sexy pose!

  3. Paresh Rawal saying that he is leaving the apartment!

  4. John Abraham trying to explain to Akshay Kumar that one girl is inside the apartment and forcing him to go and eat outside!

  5. Paresh Rawal taking an unusual position while changing a photo frame and explaining his position!

  6. 'Whose bag is this?' – One of the girls asking John! Hillarious!

Priyadarshan is sure to have a tough time directing two biggies for a Diwali release. Garam Masala lacks that hot factor which could have made it a better comedy. He keeps the best till last, making some people clueless if it’s a comedy or what? An average attempt for a Diwali release! Performances were wasted by stupid dialogues. The last 20 minutes is like in a sit-com. Too much camera focus only in the apartment makes it quite dull in the end but Akshay Kumar saves it! It’s a screaming movie where you will never see Akshay keeping his mouth shut!
