This place is connected via rail, road, and air, the nearest airport being Bagdogra which is approximately 130 km and you prefer to add more adventure to your trip you can fly all the way to Gangtok availing the helicopter services, however it may fall heavy on your pocket or else you can take a cab directly to Gangtok and if you prefer Railways then the nearest railway station is NJP or New Jalpaiguri and from there cabs are available NJP is approximately 120 km and takes around 4hours to reach Gangtok, also bus services are available from Siliguri.The best places to visit in Gangtok is are 1. Nathula Pass 2. Monasteries 3. Ganesh Tok 4. Ban Jhakri Falls 5. Kanchenjunga.
There are really good options when it comes to staying there in Gangtok, right from the budget hotels to the expensive ones, what I would really advise is please give a try to Tibetan foods those are awesome., among the popular cuisine, few are Momos, thupka, gyathuk, Thenthuk etc. The best time to visit is around the year, and from safety point of view it is quite safe. A must place to visit.
