I have visited Gangtok a number of times in my childhood but this place did not appeal to me when I recently visited as an adult. There are plenty of trains from Sealdah station in Kolkata to New Jalpaiguri station. I went with my parents in the month of may. From the NJP station there are plenty of shared jeeps ferrying passengers to Gangtok. They charge about 400 per passenger. On my 2nd day of visit, we went for local sight seeing but I did not find many options to look at. There were only 5-6 good spots like Ganesh Tok, baba mandir and Nathula pass. I did not like the Changu lake at all. It didn't appeal to me. There are many hotels in and around M. G. Marg, which is the mall road. There are many shop from where I bought many home decorating and gift items. Gangtok is a very safe place and one can go out at 10.00 p.m. at night also.
