As far as I remember I would visited GRT about 5 times. But mom and Dad would have visited over more than 10 time I guess. But most of time when I visited, it was only during Weekends, especially on Saturdays or mainly on Sundays. But have visited here probably only once on a Weekday. So comes below is my experience in a simple way.
I visited the T Nagar's G.R.Thanga Maligai otherwise known as GRT Jewelers about 2 days ago to buy gold earring for myself(well this is the first time I am trying on with earring because this is also for the first time I am piercing my ears in 30 yrs).
Here is how it went -
Parked our sedan at GRT Wallet Parking which was located on the other side of the road(in Street on Right of Usman road towards Pothys). On Weekends, we even struggled to park our Santro. And even any car Parking is not possible in T Nagar on Sundays.
Then Entered the shop by 5pm and we were welcomed by the welcoming staff. They asked us what we were looking out for and we said Gents Earring. But they gave us wrong floor details(2nd floor). At Second floor, the welcoming lady said the gents earring is on 4th floor.!
Reached 4rth floor by lift. It was the first time I got the opportunity to use lift at GRT. Usually Getting elevator at GRT is like waiting for Metro Train in Chennai.
Then we were send to the Gents Earring section and we were given nice hospitality. The crowd was very less. The Staff showed us what we asked, slowly and gently.
Then my brother found an another section which also had Gents Earrings. So then we switched over to that section. There we got the best hospitality. Wow, they provided us with Drinks and treated us the best. They treated us really Friendly.! They also gave us healthy tips on both family as well as the jewelry.
Finally we selected two pairs and we left.
The Price deduction were not that satisfactory. But since it was a small jewelry, we didn't argue any further and paid the money.
On the Weekends, This above is actually not possible. The experience is actually almost opposite to what happened to me 2 days ago. And reason for this is "Heavy Crowd". You won't find a place to park you bike, you won't be able to get into elevators that easily, you won't able to select jewelry with peace of mind and even won't get a better Hospitality, if you visit GRT or any other Jewelry shop at T.Nagar on Sundays and Saturdays.
Other Details -
Jewelry Range for Women - Wide.
Jewelry Range for Men - Not much.
Ambiance and AC - Really Good. But AC won't be better on Sundays during Summers.
Value for money and Deduction - Good price and deductions possible during bulk purchases.
Verdict - Overall, Shopping at GRT is recommended only during Weekdays between Mondays to Fridays, but definitely not during Weekends.
