Worst care, poorly trained, run by duty docs

Staff Attitude:

I had admitted my father some years ago at his hospital.  He was a COPD patient. They said that my father had to be operated upon immediately.  After the operation, they told it was not appendix, but perforated abdomen. Dr. Jeyamohan Unnithan was the pulmonologist and Dr. Kavitha was the surgeon.

They both had ego clashes and often fought over who needs to take care of the patient. After 9 days in the ICU, Dr. Jeyamohan said that he was okay and send my father to the ward.

On the 10th day, father had respiratory problems, but there were no specialists to attend to. All docs were on leave and nobody could be contacted.  The poorly trained staff could not even handle the situation and they haphazardly rushed my father to the ICU.

There, one trainee doc came and said that he was critical, told some stories and after sometime he told that the patient expired.  None of the docs responded and our whole family was in a state of shock on how they handled critical cases.

The second incident was my uncle unknowingly admitted his son, an 8 year old, due to lung infection problems. The same pattern followed, they started saying that patient was critical, we are monitoring. When I asked what is the specialist doing, they said he is on leave and would attend the patient in the morning. At mid night they called and said he was critical and asked for some meds.

We had to run to the drug store for the drugs at this critical juncture.  Again and again they asked for meds and said they are trying there best, but even the duty doc who said that had left the ICU and came back after 2 hours. In the early morning hours they said he had passed away and they immediately made arrangement to give the body before dawn break. The third incident was thankfully not fatal, but my friend had consulted them and they diagnosed him with hyperthyroidism, advised surgery, and life long medication.  He asked me for a suggestion, I told him after the bitter experience and took him to another endocrinology specialist who said that it was just viral thyroiditis and said he will recovery in 6 weeks. Now he is healthy and happy.

I myself work in the medical records department, but was taken for a ride by these so called specialists who throw a lot of attitude around them, the hospitals are so understaffed and untrained because of the poor pay that they are offered, and the administration is under pressure to fill the cash lockers.

I would advise everybody to establish primary care with a trusted family physician first and then follow their advise for serious/life threatening condition. because these docs only talk to their colleagues and they are not worried about patient a bit, it is their duty to see the patient from 50 meters, advise some drugs, ill treat their relatives, get a sign from them for whatever garbage they fill our head with.

By the way, this Dr. Jeyamohan Unnithan refused to see me at this office when I attempted to get signatures for insurance purposes after the death of my father and asked that I leave the files in the office so that he can avoid me.

I am now left with regret through my life and I could not provide good care for my father.
