To Be or Not to Be?

1) Everybody wants a revolution in Indian sports but nobody wants his/her kid to join sports.

Let me ask everybody including myself a question " Will you agree if your son or daughter wants to be a sportsperson rather then being an engineer or doctor?" most of the times answer is no. Even if we agree to let our children be a sportsperson we want him to join cricket because that's where the big money is.

Let the child's interest decide where he wants to go. As parents or elders it is our duty to show him the right path to achieve that goal.

" I always wanted to be a hockey player and that's why my son should play Hockey if he wants to take up sports" is the attitude most Indian fathers carry and is harmful for aspiring kids.

2) Let's see the other side of story. A side most people generally never think off. out of 100 crore in India we must find how many are illitrate, how many are below poverty line, how many just can't help their kids to take up sports, how many are still in a orthodox mindset when it comes to sport

Which leaves us with a question that are we really 100 crore?

3) Another side of the story is Indian industrial growth and it's contribution to sports in general and aging sportsperson in particular. We all know Kapil Dev was captain of India when we won the world cup. How many of us know who was captain of hockey team when it won the world cup. Leave aside the captain when we won the world cup in Hockey last time?

4) Cricket is saleable because team India brings result. But looking in the last 10 years we have reached the finals of a major tournament just once(World cup 2003) and never won a world cup. In the last 10 years we have produced world champions in many other sports. Paes,  Bhupati,  Pankaj Advani,  V Anand, Geet Sethi, Gopichand and latest being Jeev Milkha singh. we cannot forget Anjali Bhagwat, Anju Bobby George, Sania mirza and Narian Karthikeyan being the pioneers and torch bearers in Indian sport.

5) History also plays it's part in sports. We have to admit that laziness runs in Indian subcontinent's peoples' blood. We just cannot sweat it out in the sun for sports but yes we can burn midnight oil to clear our exams. This attitude is the reason behind Indian IT's success. Sports is not in our blood. If it is then it is in some pockets few and far. Like hockey is more in Punjab then in any other Indian state.

6) Last but not the least. Our most games are being controlled by people who are running the organization from eternity without showing any result. Let us ask Govt. of India to make these people answerable? let's ask Kalmadis and Das Munshis what are there plans in next two years and if they cannot produce results just show them the door.

May one day India progress as a nation proud of it's sportspersons.

Let's hope we win a gold in Beijing. I know it's just a hope but hope is the only thing with which we all do out the things today. Hoping that we will be alive tomorrow. So let's hope to see India as a powerful sports nation.
