I still remember the day I saw the ford ikon tvc for the first time and I immediately fell in love with its looks , style and its driver focused attitude. As I was in lucknow at that time and my father was planning to sell his maruti and upgrade to a spacious and powerful sedan. I convinced my father to have a look at the new ikon nxt but at first my father hesitated a bit due to the gas guzzling image and high maintanance cost of the ikon nxt and due to a dismal show by the previous push- rod engined ikon but my father liked the looks of it and said it looked better than its rival.Other than ikon we had opel corsa and honda city as our options, we didn, t consider hyundai accent as our option because of its low seats, underwhelming driving experience, girly looks and its not for the enthusiast character on the other hand ford ikon was more of a drivers car which appealed to ur heart with overwhelming driving experience and it had that josh and smashing looks that we were looking forward to in our car.
As my father is in army so we are frequently shifted from one place to another so my father was posted in pune and we had to buy a car soon. So we called for a test drive car from planet ford in pune and my father drove it and he as he put his foot ion the pedal we could only see things going backwards in a jiffy we liked the car very much I liked the commanding ride position, powerful engine, well cushioned seats, sporty steering wheel, 1.5 tonne air conditioning unit to name a few.Features were pretty good too with rain sensing wiper and height adjust for the seats plus it had a huge 400 litre boot. Its suspension was simply great with mcpherson struts up front and with twist beam at the rear absorbing the bumps cleanly but it does get caught out on big bumps .
It had some serious power too with 92 bhp and 0-100 in 10.46sec which is really great and all this at a great price.Interior were a little let down though with hard plastics which could have been better .We knew that its rival have better fuel economy and better resale value but that was not r main concern. It was any day a better car in terms of ride and handling and gave even bigger octavia run for money in terms of space and legroom . We bought the 1.6 exi variant with silver stone as our colour choice on9th oct 2006 and are extremely lucky that we bought this masterpiece as it was discontinued by ford a couple of months later.we are highly satisfied with the product and it is a great value for money.
