Mornings around my place are never very pleasant, and they're even worse when my Wife decides it's time to wake me up early on a weekend. While I often have trouble getting to sleep, I don't want to bothered when I do reach a peaceful slumber. In fact, I'm often quite grumpy when my Wife wakes me up when I don't believe she has a good reason to do so. The conversations between my beloved Marci Kay and I go a little like this when she decides it's time for me to wake up early on a Saturday morning:

Marci Kay: Honey, it's time to get up.

Me: Mrmmphh, mrmmphh, huh?

Marci Kay: Come on! We've got stuff to do!

Me: Mrmmphh, mrmmphh, urgh. Wife. Mrmmphh, mrmmphh go to hell.

Around that point, I'll get dragged out of bed. Fortunately, there's always a cup of coffee around the place somewhere. My Wife has learned that I'm an unreasonable sort in the morning, but a good shot of caffeine tames me well enough.

Now, Folgers isn't exactly the best coffee around. In fact, it's pretty ordinary and generic, but it's cheap enough and makes for a good pot of ''every day'' coffee. And, who wants to deal with expensive stuff (called ''stinky coffee'' by my Mother) the first thing in the morning.

Folgers, in fact, tastes about as common as other mass-produced brands such as Maxwell House. While Folgers tries to market it's ''special blend'' and all that sort of thing, this is made quick and with fairly cheap ingredients. Folgers, however, prices this low enough so that it sells out quickly.

Overall, Folgers tastes a bit harsh, but that's toned down a bit by some other complimentary flavors that are more mellow. The coffee isn't very complex at all, and the taste is very direct. The flavor is dark, a bit smoky and tastes just fine when prepared my favorite way -- hot, black, without sugar and loaded with caffeine (coffee without caffeine is as evil as nonalcoholic beer, as far as I'm concerned).

Indeed, a variety of flavors doesn't linger in a cup of Folgers, but the caffeine sure as hell does, and that's all that matters in the morning, right? Indeed, I've spent many mornings prying my eyes open and enjoying a hot cup of Folgers.

So, while this isn't the best coffee out there, the price is right and it's just what the doctor ordered for early mornings. You might want to keep something else around for special times, but Folgers goes fine whenever you want a cup of coffee.
