Hi!

I’ve just completed reading Chetan Bhagat’s first book "Five Point Someone". Or should I call it a novel?
Anyway, I did read the book which I bought. Though most people might want
to read someone else’s books, I always prefer owning them. Not all of them though. Since some are pretty costly.

Sorry! Iv’e been deviating from the actual point... the review.

Firstly, I would like to tell you that this is the third book of the author that I’ve read. Confused? Dont be!
It just happened that I read the author’s books in the reverse order. First I read his 3rd book "The 3 mistaked of my life". Then his 2nd book "One Night At A Call Center" and this is the third one, his first book "Five Point Someone".

Considering the fact that this is his first book, he made a decent effort. I say this because even though I may not be an IITian, I still feel like there were some dumd things that the primary characters did. I don’t want this review to be a spoiler to the new readers. So to all the readers planning to read this book, please ignore the spoiler section below.

Comments:
I was a little impressed by the writing style. It was simple and crisp. I was engrossed in the book till I completed the whole book. It took me around 3 hours. But I had nothing else to do. There was a problem with my internet, the cable tv was out and I couldn’t sleep either. I wouldn’t call it a "must read" but it is worth a try. Though it may not actually tell you what to do to get into IIT. But it surely tells you what not to do. Not just in IIT but in any other place you go to study. The story is about 3 friends, their studies and their future. Looks like I found another interesting fact. In all the 3 books, there are either 3 friends or 6 people (multiple of 3) who are the crux of the story.

Anyway, I would rate the book between 5 & 6 on the scale of 10. Considering that this is the first attempt of the author, this rating is not bad. Anyone who has nothing else to do... can read this book.
In fact you can grab a copy of Chatan’s any book to kill time.

SPOILER SECTION:
First Time Readers, please stop reading any further. This section contains some spoilers and you may regret later ;)

The story was a simple one but looked more like a bollywood story. It was similar to a very old trick that was used in quite a number of movies in different languages... the hero developing a carburetor that is very fuel efficient. Not that it is a bad theme but I felt like I was reading the script of one of those films. At least some chapters of it were similar.

Anyway, each book is different by itself but one thing is definitely
common in his books. There is always a paragraph, if not a whole chapter,
included in there which involves sex. Sorry to bring this up but I
couldn’t help it. Ive read all 3 of his books and each one had included
going physical. I’m not against it does not seem important considering
the fact that the story is not about love! That’s my take. You are
always welcome to disagree.

And who would go to a viva with 3 shots of vodka. Some chapters earlier, Neha shows some mints and tells that she will use them to cover up her drink. Still the stud goes to take his viva without any backup?

How could the guy think the professor would not recognise his own shirt?
And wouldnt it be dumb for someone to dial a number while stealing and leave a clue to get caught?
Even though if the author did not include the switching stuff, there sill is a chance that the professer notices that ther was something different with the seal. That might be too techie to think of but I do believe that some tricks mentioned were not as intelligent as I expected.
But, it may not always have to be true that all intelligent people are smart.

Anyway, I was not very happy with the way it ended though there may not be a better ending.
I’m not an author so cannot tell you how I would put it. Even if I was an author, I might not give a different ending.... cause at the end of the day, it’s what the reader expects that counts.
