Heres my selection for the best five restaurants in Bangalore:
1. Kamat Yatri Nivas, Gandhinagar
2. Home Meals, Jayanagar
3. New Krishna Bhavan, Malleswaram
4. Janatha Hotel, Malleswaram
5.
Dose Mane, Chamrajpet
1. Kamat Yatri Nivas is located in Gandhinagar, near Majestic (behind Janatha Bazar). This hotel offers the usual north indian and south indian meals, but its speciality is the north karnataka special joladda (jowar) rotti. These soft rotti made from cornflour are a delight to eat. There are innumerable side dishes to eat the rottis with. Unlimited buttermilk, unlimited rotts served hot, followed by rice and sambar and wonderful thick curds. You can eat till you burst, all for around 75 per person, which is great value for money. You must try the plain vanilla ice cream here, it is magnificient. Overall, a place one must go; but dont go on a working day, because after you gorge yourself, you cant concentrate on your work
2. Home Meals is a small restaurant in 3rd Block, Jayanagar near Complex. This restaurant offers only meals. If you want to experience the best South Indian thali meals which tastes just like home food, try this place. For around Rs.30, you get a wonderful mini meals. A chapathi, two curries, a raita, rice, sambar, rasam, curds, pickles and a sweet is on the thali. It is real good. Those staying near Jayanagar, this is a place you can eat daily without bruning your pocket or your stomach!
3. New Krishna Bhavan (NKB) located opposite Sampige theatre near Malleswaram circle is an old restaurant. You get special items Udipi/Mangalore style like Kotte Kadubu, Goli bajji, Buns, etc. The ragi mudde (ragi ball) meals, is a traditional mysore style meals. And of course, there is an air conditioned restaurant called Gopika where you can get North Indian food. The idli, dosas are all worth trying
4. Janatha Hotel is located on the busy 8th Cross in Malleswaram. If you want to taste the best masala dosa in Bangalore, this is the place to be. A very old restaurant, over the years price has gone up and size of the dosa has gone down, but the taste is superb. The masala dosa and vada are very popular, not to mention the coffee.
5. Dose Mane, is a small roadside eatery on Chamrajpet near the Chamrajppet circle. The specialty here is the Davanagere Benne (Butter) Masale dose. This is a must try, the dosa is richly smeared with butter and will melt in your mouth. There are many such restaurants in Bangalore, but the taste here is good. There is only standing space here and people even eat on the pavement. This is a place you need to try once.
Some other good restaurants are:
1) SLV Corner, Basavanagudi (especially North Indian)
2) Brahmins Coffee Bar, Shankarapuram (Idli and upma)
3) Asha Food Camp, Malleswaram (North indian and chats)
4) Kadambam, branches all over Bangalore (Iyengar style puliogare, pongal)
5) Bheema, Church Street (Andhra style)
