Review : Rainy season in Mumbai is great fun. With rain pouring like cats and dogs, thunder and lightning doing a jazzy number in the sky, hot pakodas and coffee for company, with Jagjit Singh crooning in the background, I tell u, its the best time to curl with a book. This is indeed the best time to buy books and enjoy monsoons. And despite worries that the onslaught of the electronic media will lend a lethal blow to the print media, book lovers seem to have only grown. In Mumbai, undoubtedly, the best place to buy books is Crossword. Its spacious and u can spend hours there, browsing through the books. The coffee that u get there is also great. The only thing which I detest is shopping carts. How can u have shopping carts in a book store? Yeah, I do see many using the carts too but I always tell myself that they cannot be true book lovers! Then there in Lotus Book House. Its a wonderful place, a must go place for all book lovers. Well, all know about Strand. Its wonderful and somehow all this media hype and publicity does not seem to have affected it all that much. It continues to remain cluttered but I feel there is a lot of comfort in that clutter. The streets of Fort in Mumbai. They are also a wonderful place to buy books. U can chance upon the rarest of books in those piles and piles of books, spread on the road. The book vendor is also great to chat with. Last but not the least, the Nalanda book shop in Taj. Its great, a must visit. Buy a book there, sit in the lobby or go to the coffee shop, ovelooking the Gateway. Great way to read a book.
