If looks were everything - These guys would rule

Good looks are something one is born with. Of course, today plastic surgery is a major aid for those who aren’t exactly blessed with “good looks”. Here is a list of some of the actors of Bollywood who I think have been truly blessed in the looks department. Whether their acting keeps you glued to the screen or not, their personality and looks surely do.

1] Dharmendra: I have watched some of his old black and white films and his later films as well. Boy, was he HANDSOME! Even at 70 he looks pretty good for his age. He hails from Punjab and came to Bombay to pursue his luck in the industry and sure enough it paid off. Watch him in films like “Satyakam”, “Anpad”, “Anupama”…the list is endless. Whether it is the quentiscential romantic hero or the angry hero out to get revenge, he has done extremely well. He does not do as much films today but is still seen on celluloid once in a while. He will soon appear in a movie titled “apne” with his sons Sunny and Bobby.

2] Vinod Khanna: He debuted as a villain but how long could one keep this good lookin guy away from being the “hero”. His charm, physique, height and smile were all in his favor and he soon became a successful “hero” in hindi films. Some of his films include hits like “Muquaddar ka Sikander”, “Qurbani”, “Amar Akbar Anthony”. His career as leading man was cut short when he gave it all up and settled down at the Rajneesh Ashram in Oregon, US. After spending a few years, there he came back to Bombay but it was too late by then and he could not really make a come back as successful as he would have liked. Today he is into politics and is also said to be signing films and will be seen in some forthcoming films. His sons Akshay and Rahul are decent actors but have yet to achieve the kind of success that their dad did once upon a time.

3] Uttam Kumar: He didn’t do many Bollywood films and is more known for being the King of Bengali Cinema. Neverthelss, he did play the leading role in some Hindi films like “Choti Si Mulaqat”, “Amanush”, “Anand Ashram”, and “Dooriyan” to name a few. He had the most charming smile and his eyes spoke volumes.

4] Biswajeet: Again, he is one of those actors whose black and white films I have watched on T.V. Some of his hit films include “Ye Raat Phir Na Aayegi”, “Bees Saal Baad”, and “Mere Sanam”. His films had highly melodious sound tracks, which made his films even bigger hits. Some people think he looks effeminate – and was too good looking for a guy. But, nevertheless, there is no doubt that he was one of the truly handsome men in Bollywood during the 1960s and early 1970s. Today he leads a retired life and is not seen in films as much. His son is an actor who did not succeed in Bollywood but has made a name for himself in the Bengali film Industry.

5] Shah Rukh Khan: Among the names I have mentioned thus far, he is the only one who is contemporary. I know his name will invite controversy as he is not considered “conventionally good looking”. But to the millions of female fans that he has all over the world, he is considered “cute”, “charming” and “handsome”. I believe it’s the roles that he has played have earned him all the adulation that he gets. I mean who wouldn’t love someone who spends 22 years in silence in a jail in another country just so the girl he loves is unharmed and does not suffer. Add to that, roles like “Mohabbattein”, “Devdas”, “Dilwale Dulhaniya le Jayenge”…… you know what I am talking about…….

In addition to the above five names, the list would be incomplete without the following names who are somewhat more contemporary-

1] Hrithik Roshan – He is truly good looking and after Dhoom 2, he has established himself as one of the most good looking guys currently reigning Bollywood. 2]Akshay Kumar – Tall, Dark and Handsome 3] Aamir Khan – Cute(although aging now.)4] John Abraham – Again not too conventional, but a great physique and nice smile. 5]Abhishek Bachchan – Personally I don’t find him good looking as such, but since Bollywood’s beauty queen is tying the knot with him – She must have seen something in him – Other than his last name….Jokes apart, he’s got two out of three – Tall and Dark… how far can “handsome” stay….may be all he needs is a shaving cream and razor….6] Salman Khan - He is considered good looking by some. There is no denying that he has a great body. I saw him in person recently and he definitely looks better in person and than in photos.
