I am a fan of Udit Narayan since my childhood.
This is the singer who sings with his soul.His every emotion, every idea expresses him in his voice.He is simple, down to earth guy and is a rare one who are born few in a century.
Udit will sound good in all songs, great in some other songs, but consider this:when he sings with any other singer(male esp) he seems vastly superior to the other.He has even surpassed lata mangeshkar in songs from DTPH and DDLJ(remember Na jaane mere dil ko kya ho gaya?).No matter who the singer is with him, he is able to sing better than him or her.where is the point?
I dont like comparing him with Sonu nigam, abhijeet or sanu for that matter.Yes, Sanu was the strongest one to emerge out and dominated the scene for few years in 1990's, but no longer he is such great.Abhijeet too is having lull period from some time now.Sonu nigam, for that matter has a soft voice with good variations from the upper level of throat and some added effects.But he stands pale in front of Udit in the songs they sing together. He is good, but udit is great.
My fav songs are:
1 Jaana Suno hum tum pe marte hain-Khamoshi Very good song from him.This movie had some of most original and astounding songs of the last decade.Similarly other song from this movie:'Saagar Kinare bhi do dil hain pyaase, Kaha tak yahi bhole bhaale dilase' is very good to.I think what adds to udit's sweet voice is the great music from Jatin Lalit.
2. Mera Dil tere Liye-Aashiqui whenever I hear this song, I find it as fresh as I heard on first time.Udit's vocie is so fresh, so lively in this song and when he lifts his voice-aa aa-aaaa-aa aaa, oh god! Its so difficult to sing that type of sound, and this song is one of the most romantic songs for me.
3. Ai mere humsafar-QSQT My first acquaintance with udit.first song I loved most.still is one of my fav.Though I like all songs of the movie.
4. Ghar se nikalte hi-Papa kahete hain I dont say that this song is one of the best ones by him, rather I say that udit's performance is one of the best given by him.Other let downs are in music, heaviness implied by some words.But a song which can be heard anytime you wish to, fresh as morning's rose.
5. Teri yaad humsafar subaho shaamThe speciality of this song is in alap by udit after 1st para.Ho- ho .type.Music ios also very good.One of the more memorable performances by udit.
6. Songs of DTPH: I coucldnt decide which to include amongst three:Bholi si surat, are re are, and Dil to pagal hai.And I honestly feel Lata is dominated by Udit here.
7. Ho nahi sakta-Diljale Anu Malik's music promises wonders sometimes, and Udit's voice is only capable of doing it.One of the most beautiful songs ever sung.Other song, 'Kuch tum baheko' sung by Alka and Udit is also very good, but here job of good music is more.
8 O humsfar, dil ke nagar-FarebVery romantic song.I have included it in another review on the most romantic songs.
9. Kuch kuch hota hai, Tujhe yaad na meri aayi- KKHH I like both these songs.Couldnt decide which one to be left out on expense of other.
10. Raat ki hatheli par chand jagmagata hai-Refugee An astounding song, and a great performance from this great man here.Anu Malik complements well.
In this world, we have habit of not knowing the worth of person who is alive.We only say that he is or was great when he is not more.When Kishore, Rafi and Mukesh were at their best, even than no one dared to sompare them with the great KL sehgal.But now they are no more, and me can compare them. By this standards, i feel Udit will rise to heights even more than Those of Kishore, Rafi and mukesh.I say this as I love his voice, and feel that the whichever song he sings, he sings the best.No one can better sing better than him. He is orignal, and a singer that doesnt have anything to offer anything except the truly great, god send voice.I was reading the artice written by mnc123 that he is the Sachin of music.I felt that he has said what I felt for a long time from now.This thought has remained with me since last 6-7 years(or more, I dunno).
