GR8 Punjabi MUSIC. Review on Five Best Punjabi Songs

If I look back in the past 10 - 15 years of punjabi music, which I grew listening to, I think we have certainly done the modernization of our music. Whether it is to market songs to audience who doesnt understand the depth of punjabi music or just to catch up with the western trend of beats and pop UP culture or is it really a picture 21st Century Punjab. who knows?

But one thing I must say that punjabi music is not at all POP music that is temporary or popular at a particular event in time. We have one of the finest vocals like hans raj hans, jasbir jassy, sardool sikandar, sukhwinder, harbhajan, and alike and above all Gurdas Maan AND a very very rich history and culture that inspires us to reveal more of what PUNJABI is. More singers are coming up but what we should concentrate on is Quality Songs that represents TRUE PUNJAB, whether it is now, past or future.

I think the culture of remixes and copy cats would not last long, as people always give preference to genuine GOOD MUSIC rather than breaking the melody into different nodes of noises.

So, there you are. My favourites cannot be listed in top 5 or top 25 or top 100. All songs are chosen according to mood. So, some of them are as follows: -

1) MURJAA VE MURJAA BEEBA - Gurdas Maan

This song is one special( like everyone of gurdas's) and has a very touching message, which is DO NOT FORGET WHO WE ARE.  Every word of this song hits you really hard and ask you the questions which you constantly avoid in this glittery world. It tells you the core of Punjab and simplicity and sacrifice of people who earned us the free air we r living in.

'MAR JAANE MAANA SIKHI MANGDI SIRAAN NU'

Although, CHALLA is one of my all time favourites.

2) SOHNE DES PUNJAB  - Gurdas Maan

Another one from Gurdas Maan, again has some of the powerful words that exhibits the true picture of punjab(simple and beautiful charm of punjabi people).

This one must be accompanied with Rangla Punjab. Definately a proud combination.

3) APPAN DOWEY RUS BAITHE - HANS RAJ HANS

Now, this is called a true LOVE song. If someone is going thru rough patches in love life, this one is what he/she shud listen to. I think no body can sing this song the way HANS RAJ HANS has sung. He has one of most melodious voice in the current times. And with this song, he has proved, he is truly a legend in singing. The lyrics of this songs are so beautiful that after listening to this composition one finds it really difficult to decide which is made first, lyrics or composition. HATS OFF TO THIS SONG.

4) KHAT - Jasbir Jassy

I believe Jassy is one of very few brilliant singers available in the punjabi singing arcade. And this song proves it that in times to comes, he would earn a name very few in the past have achieved. His soft voice and the absolute control over melody is really mind blowing. Just listen to this song, and you can feel the pain of words piercing thru ur heart. ABSOLUTELY A MUST HAVE.

And after listening to his another song, 'EK TAARA VAJDA VE', I sincerely feel he is one GIFTED actor born with a golden voice.

5) MEHANDI - Malkit Singh

This one is kindda folk song and keeps you invloved completely. It tells you what is genre of punjabi and its depth. Just listen to this one, and you would never be tired of listening to it again and again. A complete Catch with'JIND MAHI'. MAN .This combination .No other words to explain except SIMPLY FANTASTIC.

I think these are the few you must hear and experience. By the way, I am still waiting when this trend of VIOLENT CRAP SONGS would be over and we could hear some quality aspect of punjabi music and culture.
