Malayalam cinema is blessed with so many good character actors who do well in any sort of role, especially comedy. While doing comedy, timing is the most important part and actors like Innocent, Kochin Haneefa and Jagathy Sreekumar have impeccable timing. Watching them in out and out comic roles you'll realize what a blessed relief is laughter. These are the five best comedy movies made in malayalam. In no specific order.

"In Harihar Nagar"

Four loafers, a murder mystery and a beautiful girl next door. Its utterly hilarious. You know you're in for a bloody good time if these foursome consist of actors like Jagadesh, Mukesh, Siddhique and Ashokan. The movie is nothing but the adventures of these four people in a housing kolony named Harihar Nagar in kerala. Its by far the best comedy written and directed by Siddhique-Lal among other hits namely "Ramji Rav speaking" "Mannar mathai speaking" among others.

"Punjabi House"

Rafi Meccartin's classic comic movie featuring Dileep, Kochin Haneefa, Harishree Ashokan among others. Dileep is acting as a deaf and mute in this film because of the insurmountable debts which he was obligated to repay. He commits suicide in the sea but is saved by fishermen played by Harishree Ashokan and Kochin Haneefa. The film was remade by Priyadarshan in Bollywood as Chup Chup Ke in 2006, starring Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Neha Dhupia, and Sunil Shetty. As always Priyan sir cannot match the sheer ingenuity of the original film which became a cult hit through cable tv broadcast.

"Boeing Boeing"

The original of Priyadarshan's Garam Massala in Hindi. Of course this was a remake of the original film of the same name made in english. In the malayalam version, Mohanlal and Mukesh play two friends who scheme of being secretly and simultaneously engaged to three flight attendants, a plan which works like a charm on the outset goes awry at the end. How it goes awry is the funny part.

"Nadodikkattu"

Its sequels "Pattanapravesham" and "Akkare Akkare Akkare" both are damn funny but somehow it can't match the sheer ingenuity of the original starring Mohanlal and Sreenivasan as the iconic duo Dassan and Vijayan. When Vijayan asks Dassan why didn't we get this idea before? Dassan's reply is etched in the comic gold of malayalam cinema - "Everything has a time and place my dear Vijayan".

"Mazha Peyyunnu Madhalam kottunnu"

There's no way on earth you can whittle a list without mentioning Priyadarshan's name in it. This is the best comedy of him featuring Mohanlal and Sreenivassan in the leads.

When Sreenivassan asks Lal

"How many kilometers from Miami beach to Washington DC" Lal quips in his usual style "Kilometers and Kilometers. In this days of decreating decencies when diplomacy and duplicacy become interchangable from america to America" that is far and away the funniest scene I've seen in malayalam. Period.
