There have been movies and there have been truly inspirational movies. Although with the countless films that I have watched and some of them are classics, it’s very difficult to actually come up with a list of Five Best Inspirational Movies of Hollywood but I have managed to come up with a list. Please note that this does not mean that the other movies which didn’t come in to the list are any less better but the list here, somehow, stands a bit higher then the rest. Also note that this list is in no particular order.

PS – I am not writing a hard core movie review but just a brief over view of the movie.

Chariots of Fire (1981)

One of the most inspirational multi Oscar winner (Including Best Picture) about the real Life 1924 Paris Summer Olympics and specific about the lives of 2 young British Runners Eric Liddell and Harold Abraham played wonderfully by Ian Charleston and Ben Cross. Eric is a staunch Christian who defeats Harold, a Jew in the pre-Olympic warm up race and is a clear contender to win the 100 meter race but refuses to run the actual race as it is held on a Sunday and he would rather go to the Church then run a race. Highly inspirational movie and a must for any Sport or movie buff.

The Bridge on The River Kwai (1957)

Another multi Oscar winner (Including Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Director). It’s World War 2. A troop of British Soldiers headed by Colonel Nicholson (Alec Guinness) are Taken as Prisoners of War by The Dreaded Japanese Colonel Saito (Sessue Hayakawa). As a morale building exercise they have an impossible task of building a railway bridge in a record time under inhuman working conditions. However The Allies plan to destroy it and this leads to one of the most phenomenon climax ever seen. A must watch.

Schindler’s List 1993

Another Oscar Winner (Best Picture and Best Director). This is truly the best inspirational film ever made and possibly, at least in my list, the best movie ever made in the history of motion pictures. Only Steven Spielberg could make this and truly made by heart. Real Life story about Nazi Supporter and compulsive womanizer Oskar Schindler(Liam Neeson) who has a change of heart and saves the lives of more then 1000 Jews and in the end loosing everything he ever made. Wonderfully Supported by Ben Kingsley as his accountant and conscience and Ralph Fiennes as the mean Nazi Officer.

Ben Hur (1959)

Another masterpiece and winner of 11 Oscars (including Best Actor, Director and Film) and based on General Lew Wallace’s immortal classic novel. Based in the same era and location during the time Jesus Christ preached his sermons. Judah Ben Hur (Wonderfully played by Charlton Heston) is a kind hearted Jew who is betrayed by his best friend and Roman Officer Messala (Stephen Boyd) and is sent in to slavery. During the time he was a slave, Ben Hur saves the life of another Roman General during a storm and he adopts him. Now the only mission in Ben Hur’s life is revenge and to find his mother and sister. The Chariot Race scene is an all time classic and so is the roman boat oaring scene. A must watch.

Forrest Gump 1994

Another Multi Oscar Winner (Best Picture, Actor and Director) about a dim wit low IQ Man Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks in a spectacular role) and how, despite his low IQ he beats all odds and triumphs as a winner in whatever he does with nothing on his side except his clean heart and clear conscience. Wonderful Portrayal of the most influential decade of the 21st century (the 1960’s). Good use of real life scenarios mixed superbly to match the script. Excellent Soundtrack. This is a must for all those who have lived in that era.
