  1. George Orwell

I have listed him here because he was born in India. He is perhaps the best critic in this world. His essays - specially Shooting an Elephant - are included among the best works of this century. He was listed as the 2nd best British Author ever. His book Animal Farm is perhaps the best novella ever written. I am dying to read 1984.

  1. Salman Rushdie

The only writer whose style I can call'Unique'. He is unique, just like his marvellous narrative. He won the Booker of Booker for his book Midnight's Children. The story doesn't stop here; other books of his are also gems - The Moor's Last Sigh, Satanic Verses etc . . .

Behold: His new book In April 2008.

  1. Kiran Desai

She won the Booker Prize in 2006, and rightly deserved so. Her book Inheritance of Loss is devoid of a firm storyline; but at the same time, it is brimming with emotions. The very heart of India dwells in her novel. She successfully captures the emotions and dilemma of immigrants. The book deals with various subjects - Love, Immigration, Luck, Lust, Civil Wars, Discrimination . . .

I have read RK Narayan, Chetan Bhagat etc . . . . I wouldn't like to list them here. They simply don't deserve it.

Till now I've liked just 3 Indian Authors. I am yet to read Rudyard, Naipaul, Arundhati, Vikram etc . . .
