I don’t go looking for war movies unless they have gotten my attention. I find war movies to be long and drawn out with the main focus of zooming the cameras on its footages of war which usually takes up most of the movie. It’s amazing how the directors of these movies seemly want to keep your attention on the elements of war. Flying plains, scattered bombs, fire, and death is always the major focus in these movies.

However, I would be remiss to say that some of these movies have actually gotten my attention, and interest. For instance, the new waves and trends of modern technology and its special effects along with the space age of war doesn’t really look to bad, but rather exciting.

So folks dispute my displeasure of war and most war movies here is my choice of the best war movies I’ve seen.

1. Tora! Tora! Tora! Released in 1970 directs our attention to that drastic day in American history of the attack on Pearl Harbor, December 8, 1941 a day that America didn’t expect. In this outstanding movie directors and writers Richard Fleischer, Kinji Fukasaku, Ladislas Fago and Larry Forester shows us graphic depictions of Japan’s preparations and plans to attack America. You actually see the Japanese speak of the war as they tell us their side and their reasons for their launched attack. There are lots of excellent special effects and graphic footage of the attack. At the movie’s climax there is interviews, photographs and commentaries with military historians. There’s also very interesting footage of US President, Franklin D. Roosevelt and his involvement with the attack on Pearl Harbor. Tora! Tora! Tora! is an excellent war movie and a must see.

2. Star Wars is another fantastic war movie, for me this was the perfect introduction to the wonders of modern technology and advanced special effects on the big screen. In this movie the war is between a good and evil empire and which empire will eventually role the world. George Lucas does and excellent job with this movie’s special effects.

3. The Empire Strikes Back is another installment to the star wars trilogy. In this movie the battle between good and evil continues. The special effects become even more advanced and excellent as we see more use of depth, amazing effects with electricity, machinery, movement, and fire. The Empire Strikes Back is another great movie by George Lucas.

4. The Lord of the Rings the Two Towers released in 2002 is another outstanding movie of epic portions. In this movie war becomes the focus when an evil wizard attempts to get a ring with magical abilities while a heroic Hobbit attempts to destroy it. Peter Jackson brilliantly directs and illustrates the graphic depictions of war along with its wonderful special effects.

5. Glory is also an outstanding war movie released in 1989, it’s a movie that shows the pride and the brave hearted black solders that endured racism in America’s army. They are rejected, and met with hostility and prejudice as they become the focus of racial intolerance and expected failure while serving their country. These African American solders would be the first black unit to fight in the civil war. They later demonstrate their strength and victory as they fight in this war. Denzel Washington and Matthew Broaderick lead this cast with outstanding performances. There are also outstanding scenes of war in this movie as well. Director Edward Zwick does an excellent job with this movie.

There you have it folks this is my choice of the best war movies I’ve seen. They are wonderfully done movies with an excellent story line to them. The casting and direction is also outstanding. Check these movies out you’ll enjoy them very much.

Thanks for reading.
