5 best comedy movies I have seen
Jun 19, 2006 11:16 AM 38380 Views

There have been a lot of comedy films made in Bollywood since the old days. I have always been a big fan of comedy films ever since I started watching films. Films are meant for entertainment and after days of hard work one gets tired and thinks of colling off by watching a movie. At this time, watching a comedy movie is a good idea as it spreads some laughter and relieves of the tiredness. It is always the toughest thing to make people laugh and on watching comedy movie, all I do is laugh, laugh and laugh.

Here are some of the good comedy movies. Although there have many good comedy movies made earlier like Padosan, Half Ticket, Angoor, Jaane bhi do Yaaro, but since I started watching movies from only the 1990s, so I cant tell much about the earlier movies. My list will only give the 5 best comedy movies after 1990. Here goes my list -

1. Andaz Apna Apna(1993) - Andaz Apna Apna starring Amir Khan, Salman Khan, Karishma Kapoor, Raveena Tandon, Paresh Rawal and Shakti Kapoor was one of the best comedy films made in the 1990s. The film, revolved around how 2 small town guys, Amir and Salman fall for Karishma and Raveens. The confusion in the movie, creates when they know that Karishma was Raveena and she became Karishma for she wanted someone to lover her as she was and not love her money. Also, they know that Raveena was Karishma. Raveena(movie name), was the daughter of Paresh Rawal in the movie. Also, Paresh Rawals twin brother Teja, who is from the underworld kidnaps the real Paresh Rawal and goes into his home to get the money. He has converted all his earnings into diamonds. Amir and Salman, want to become heroes in the eyes of Paresh Rawal, but they end up saving Teja. In the climax, Crime Master Gogo(Shakti Kapoor), steps in to get the diamonds and in the end, a line is created where everyone shows a gun to get the diamonds. Lastly police comes in and Paresh Rawal, gets his diamonds back. The film Andaz Apna Apna was one of the 1st films which brought about the comic talent of Paresh Rawal, which was then later utilized by Priyadarshan.

2. Bade Miyan Chote Miyan(1998) - Bade Miyan Chote Miyan starring Govinda, Amitabh Bachchan, Raveena Tandon, Ramaya, Satish Kaushik and Paresh Rawal was another good comedy film. In the film, both Govinda and Amitabh Bachchan happen to be in double roles. This film, brough about the comic timing of Amitabh Bachchan as well. In the film, Govinda and Amitabh Bachchan p;ay the role of police inspectors and Govinda, falls in love with Raveena Tandon, Amitabh Bachchans sister. Also, their double roles play the role of thieves who sell their stolen good to Satish Kaushik in the chor bazar. Although the thief version of Govinda and Amitabh Bachchan do the wrong things, the Inspector version get caught in them. The thief version, also get to steal the diamonds for which the inspector version were told to take care of after which the inspector version are expelled from the police. The theif version and inspector version, get to meet each other after Raveena Tandon is kidnapped. The 4 create a plan and save Raveena Tandon. The theif version, now give up on stealing the goods and join the Police after they happened to save Raveena Tandon. The inspector version, end up being Traffic Havaldars.

3. Hera Pheri(2000) - Hera Pheri starred Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty, Paresh Rawal, Tabu, Om Puri and Gulshan Grover. Hera Pheri was also one of the best comedy films and is the story of how Raju, Shyam and Babu Rao, take the advantage of a mistake in the telephone directory to get the money. Each of Raju, Shyam, Babu Rao and also Anuradha(Tabu) and Kharak Singh(Om Puri) are in need of money to repay their loans. One day, the grand-daughter of Devi Prasad is kidnapped by Kabira and they try to connect to Devi Prasad. Due to the error in the telephone directory, they connect to Babu Raos garage and then Raju plans of doing Hera Pheri when Kabira asks for Rs.10 Lakh. Raju, tells shyam to ask Rs. 20 Lakh from Devi Prasad. The police steps in and now Kabira asks for Rs. 20 Lakh. Raju, also increases the amount and asks for Rs.40 Lakh. The climax of the film takes place and in the end Raju, Shyam and Babu Rao, get the money. Also, a sequel to the film titled Phir Hera Pheri released recently and it also was as good as its prequel. After the success of Phir Hera Pheri, a yet another sequel of the film is in the making.

4. Munnabhai MBBS(2003) - Munnabhai MBBS starred Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Dutt, Boman Irani, Gracy Singh and Jimmy Shergill. Munnabhai MBBS talks of how a don of Mumbai, Munnabhai "becomes" a MBBS. Munnabhai, one day runs away from his home when young and goes to Mumbai where he becomes a don. His parents wanted him to become a Doctor. Munnabhai, tells them that he is a Doctor and they come to visit him. Now, Munnabhai turns his adda into a hospital. His parents, then get to know from Dr. Asthana that their son is not a Doctor, but a don. Munnabhai, gets affaected by all this and wants to become a Doctor. For this, he creates fake certificates and "gives" the PMT exam. Munnabhai, sends Dr. Rustam to give the PMT exam and then he tops the PMT exam. Munnabhai, then happens to join the medical college where Dr. Asthana is the dean. Munnabhai, knew that his childhood sweetheart Chinky was the daughter of Dr. Asthana and he wants to search for her. Munnabhai, now gets into the college and treats patients using a "Jadoo ki Jhappi". Munnabhai, was about to become a doctor, but his life changes when Zaheer(Jimmy Shergill) comes in and gets admitted in the hospital. He spreads some happiness into Zaheers life and gives him the "Jadoo ki Jhappi" but is unable to cure him and Zaheer dies. Munnabhai, gets affected by all this and leaves the hospital. Now, his parents know from Chinky that he has changed and he happily gets to marry Chinky. The film Munnabhai, has 1 of the best performances from Sanjay Dutt and its a film you would love to watch again and again. It also happens to contain some emotional scenes as well.

5. Phir Hera Pheri(2006) - Phir Hera Pheri, again starred Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty and Paresh Rawal. It also had Bipasha Basu, Rimi Sen, Johnny Lever, Sunil Pal and Sharat Saxena. It lived up to the success of its earlier film, Hera Pheri. Raju, after getting the money, becomes greedy to increase the money, he invests it in some "Laxmi Chit Fund" headed by Anuradha which doubles the money in 21 days. Raju somehow arranges the Rs. 1 Crore and gives it to Anuradha as thats the minimum amount needed. 21 days go by and the company, turns out to be fraud. Now the real Anuradha comes out and she was the sister of Kashmira Shah of Hera Pheri and Kabira, had asked her to get Rs.1 Crore from the 3. When Anuradha, does not return the money, the goondas of Kabira dressed in military clothes, get after her and she gives the money to a "chacha" who hides it in some "Kuck-doo-koo". The 3, Raju, Shyam and Babu Rao, lose all their money in being greedy and now, they plan to do another Hera Pheri, this time in Crores to return Tiwari Seths Rs.40 lakhs. They get to know about how Johnny Lever plans to steal Rs.4 Crores and somehow get the money from him. Now everyone, gets behind after the 3 and the climax takes place in some Royal Circus with a Mr. Gorilla. They, also get to know of some antique guns which are worth Rs.6-7 crores but are unable to convey it to Raju. The film Phir Hera Pheri, lived up to the earlier success of Hera Pheri and now a yet another sequel to the film is coming out.
