When few words echo life.
Oct 08, 2007 09:27 AM 20731 Views

People often relate Jagjit Singh in particular and ghazals in general to sorrow, suffering, pain, betrayal and all. So when I thought of writing this review an idea came why not write about most romantic ghazalas of Jagjit. Afterall ghazalas are also about love, dedication, emotions, motivation, passion, romance and all. Now these five ghazals are quite close to me and is of my personal opinion only as most romantic five ghazals. People can have their own ideas, likes and dislikes. But if you are a ghazal lover and little romantic you should listen to these five ghazals.

The problem with ghazals are that sometimes the words are not understood properly and then real essence of a ghazal is lost. Therefore I have tried to write my favorite lines from these ghazals as well and if you don’t understand the meaning you are most welcome to ask me(I am not a master in urdu but understand it enough to understand ghazals). They are in no particular order and I like all of them.

1.

*Kisne Bheege huye Baloon se yeh jhatka pani

Jhoom ke aayi ghatta, toot ke barsa Pani

* This ghazal is from Visions album released in 1991 which portrays a man who is so much in love that he compares her with nature. The most beautiful lines that I like in this ghazal are

Tiktiki bandhe who bethen hein mein is fikr mein hoon,

Kahin khane lage chakkar na yeh gehera Pani.

*2. Koi chaudvi raat ka chand ban kar tumhare tasavur mein aaya to hoga,

Kissi se to ki hogi tum ne mohobbat kissi ko gale se lagaya to hoga*

Released in 1996 mirage was probably(I may be  wrong) the last album of Jagjit with a english title). This ghazal’s beauty is where questions are posed to you about your love.

Kabhi Aaeene Se Nigaahen Milakar Jo Lee Hogi Bharpoor Angdaaiyon Toone

To Ghabraake Khud Teri Angdaaiyon Ne Tere Husn Ko Gud-gudaaya To Hoga

Nothing can be more romantic then this.

*3. Apne hothon pe sajana chahta hoon,

Aa tujhe mein gungunana chahta hoon*

Insearch(1992) is one of those albums where each song is a gem. This ghazal in particular is so full of love that inspires one to fall in love if he/she has not experienced it. What will be the experience if you live but the reason is somebody else.

Aakhri Hichki Tere Zaano Pe Aaye

Maut Ko Bhi Shaayarana Chaahta Hoon

(I pray my death comes in you lap, even my death has a right to be poetic). Somebody said to me death can’t be beautiful. I replied with these lines and change his perception long time back.

*4. Mere Jiase ban jaooge,

Jab ishq tumhe ho jayega*

Ecstasies(1984) was one of those albums which echoed well in India and ghazals started coming on music shelves of many people. This particular album was special because it created a lot of young fan base for Jagjit. Now just think of saying somebody that you will be like me when you’ll be in love is simply magical.

Har Baat Gawaara Kar Loge Mannat Bhi Ukara Loge

Tabeejen Bhi Bandhwaaoge Jab Ishq Tumhe Ho Jaayega

A person even starts believing in things which can be superstitions for him some time back.

*5. Kaun kehta hai mohobbat ki zubaan hoti hai,

Yeh hakikat to naighaon se bayan hoti hai*

One of the earliest ghazals from Chitra(Come alive 1979) is romance at it’s best. It tells about the language of love where eyes can be the best way to communicate and believe me this is 100% true.

Vo Na Aaye To Sataati Hai Khalish Si Dil Ko,

Vo Jo Aaye To Khalish Aur Javaan Hoti Hai,

Khalish – Pain.

Do we need to say anything else?
