Pros:
Great Music, superb ambience.
Cons:
Slightly more expensive than the average discothèque.

This is definitely a place that puts the Fire in Mumbai...

Fire and Ice, situated in the Phoenix Mills complex at Lower Parel, is absolutely hip, plays great music and is one of the ’’bigger’’
discs in Mumbai. It’s spread on two levels with the main dance floor at the bottom. If you want a little more space you can move up to the top floor, which has some dancing space and a bar.

The place gets pretty crowded on weekends, so don’t expect a place to sit down if you’re gonna waltz in after 11/12 pm - but then if you’re gettin in so late, you definitely don’t want to waste any time sitting, what with all the 2 pm party curfew set for us by the good ol’ Mumbai police. You can expect to be thrown out earliest by 2 am but on weekends it stretches to half past two.

The entry fee of 800 bucks a couple, out of which 400 is cover, used to make it one of the most expensive discs in Mumbai, but with the not so recent entry of Enigma and Insomnia, its now suddenly seems so much more affordable. About 200 bucks a drink sets it at par with the rest of Mumbai’s nite clubs.

The crowd at Fire is really chic, mostly people in their twenties. You’ll see some pretty funky fashion statements made here too.

I had been there a couple of months ago and it just happened to be ’’Hip Hop’’ night. They had got a rap group from Pune, consisting of a couple of Afro Americans and an Asian rapper. These guys were pretty good and set the mood for the evening. Fire has a lot of themed days where they concentrate on a particular genre of music. They do this pretty often, so check ahead to see if they gonna be playing your kind of music.

Fire and Ice is a place that has been around from a long time and was considered one of the best discs in Mumbai. Now the newer, more expensive discothèques have robbed it of that title, but there is still a lot of Fire left in the place. It’s been a darling of Hindi movies too. I can remember quite a few Hindi movies shot here - the first one that comes to my memory being, of course ’’Dil Chahta Hai’’.

Lastly, for all you party animals thinking of going there, you better get your dancing shoes polished really quick – cause Fire and Ice isn’t going to be around for much longer. It will be closing down some where in Jan 2004 (something to do with their lease expiring), and while the management is going to be opening another place somewhere else in Mumbai – it just won’t be Fire and Ice.

A legend in the Mumbai nightlife is gonna pass away soon; make sure you pluck an apple before the tree’s cut down.
