Finders keepers is Stephen king’s latest novel, it is a sequel to Mr. Mercedes and second book in Bill Hodges trilogy.
This novel tells the story of Morris Bellamy who is an angry reader, he read the work of John Rothstein who is a fictional American writer, the male protagonist of John Rothstein trilogy is Jimmy Gold, Morris Bellamy is absolutely in love with these books.
They inspired him, make him write his thoughts and what he reads between the lines on the margins of the book, he was crazily in love with these books and its characters. But he turn out to be very disappointed how the trilogy ends.
He one day decides he will take a revenge on the writer, so he sneak into the writer house and he steals some money and some unpublished manuscript. But before he really has a chance to look at these unpublished manuscripts Bellamy ends up going to the jail for completely different crime.
So these literally treasure are in some way lost to the world for many years until a boy name Pete Saubers finds this hidden treasure in the woods behind his house and he become obsessed, he reads the rest of the story in unpublished manuscripts and try to sell them in the black market so that he can take care of his father who got injured due to Mr. Mercedes accident.
Characters from Mr. Mercedes do show up in this novel, but in the background.
I really liked the literary aspect of this novel, and the idea of reading the unpublished work of your favourite writer. And the idea that writer is not the god but the secretary who watch the event not create them, who don’t imagine his characters but follow their lead is just magnificent. I definitely enjoyed finders keepers more than Mr. Mercedes. Even though finders keepers is a sequel to Mr. Mercedes you don’t have to read it to figure out what is going on in this novel.
I will highly recommend this book.
