Beautiful. Review on Fanaa

I deliberately waited to watch this movie long after it had come out at cinemas. The reasoning behind torturing myself (Iwas dying to see it) was simply because I wanted to form an unbiased opinion of it, long after the hype had died down. I also tried as hard as I could, to stay away from any reviews that might distort my way of thinking. When I finally watched it, I have to say, I was simply blown away by the leading pair's performances. So without waffling on, let me get onto the movie.

Plot:

Zooni (Kajol), is a blind Kashmiri girl who goes to Delhi with her dance troupe for their independance day celebration. There, she and her friends meet the charming Rehan (Aamir Khan) a poetry spewing tour guide. Rehan is quickly taken by Zooni and proceeds to flirt with her. After a few days however, Rehan realises that what started off as a flirtation has turned into a love that the blind Zooni reciprocates. Going against his better judgement, after a beautiful day spent with Zooni showing her around Delhi, he decides to marry her. But before that can happen, he takes her to an eye specialist where they are told that she will see again. But fate plays a cruel joke on Zooni in that as she opens her eyes for the first time, she sees her parents, but not the one person she has waited so long to see, her Rehan, who has been killed in a bomb blast.

It turns out however, that Rehan is a top notch terrorist hunted by the authorities and has faked his own death. We fast forward 7 years, and Rehan gets injured while on a mission, only to land up on a now seeing Zooni's doorstep. What happens next is a poignant story about a man torn between loyalty to his commanding officer and love for a woman who no longer recognizes him.

Cast Performances:

Zooni - Kajolis exceptionally beautiful and it's sas though she never took a 4 year long break. I love her as the blind Zooni who makes fun of her own blindness and won't allow anyone to feel sorry for her. Throughout the whole movie Kajol is an absolute pleasure to watch.

Rehan - Aamir Khanis fantastic again! His portrayal of the flirting tour guide is so convincing you'd fall for him too!! As the terrorist, there are times when his ruthlessness makes you almost hate him, but he still manages to draw out the viewer's sympathy.

Kirron KherFirstly, I love this woman! She was so sweet as Zooni's mother even in the little screen time that she had, she was a joy to watch.

Rishi Kapoor -As Zooni's father made a good father figure.

Pst Mortem:

I thought this movie was absolutely beautiful, but, (yes there is a but), I felt that the second half was not a part of the first. After the interval, I felt like I was watching two different movies! That being said however, the movie itself was exceptional. The performance by Aamir and Kajol was beautiful. Their chemistry on screen is simply sizzling. Yes the movie has flaws, but the good bits far surpass the bad parts by a mile. So, my reccomandation? If you haven't seen this movie, rent/buy it now!!!
