I , for one, am a big Aamir fan and he has yet to disappoint. With ’Fanaa’ I was completely bowled over by this man’s performance and what I want to know is why oh why had no one paired

him up with Kajol before this??

What was the movie about
Zooni is a blind Kashmiri girl who goes on a trip to Delhi for the first time. This is also the first time she’s making a trip with her family and she’s eager to learn about the world beyond her little protected circle.
She meets tour guide Rehan, a flirt with a passion for poetry, a passion that Zooni shares as well and Rehan was soon mesmerised by this good humoured, beautiful blind girl. Now he is determined to show Zooni Delhi and teach her the joys that she had been denied before.
Of course, the two soon fall in love, but what Zooni doesn’t know is that Rehan has a past. A past that would catch up with him.

What I liked about the film

Kajol has always had this honesty about her when she acts and I dare anyone to tell me that any other actress would have made a better Zooni. The character of Zooni herself is one who is passionate, stubborn and honest to a fault.
I think Zooni was also the stregth of the film. Beyond the common fairytale of having your prince charming sweep you off your feet, this story also makes you look into the consequence of choices. It feels real and it plays on all the emotional aspects marvelously.

Aamir  is, was, and will always be the best character actor in Bollywood. This man has an intensity that all the other actors his generation and the new generation lack. My non Bollywood watching friends who watched this movie all fell in love with him and considering that fact that they loath Bollywood movies, that’s an amazing feat.
I liked the way Aamir shaded his characters and though you see a difference in Rehan the flirt, Rehan the terrorist/soilder and Rehan the torn father/lover - you see one Rehan under it all, the lost, lonely man who was searching for something and not sure wha to do with it once he found it.
You have to laugh with him when he broke into those cheesy poetry, sympathise with him at the pain he goes through and root for him when he makes the decision to come back to Zooni.

I also love Rehan Jr. Adorable.

The soundtrack of Fanaa also did not disappoint. I loved Chand Sifarish to a fault and also Mere Haath Mein. Two gorgeous songs that I have yet to tire of.

But the best thing about Fanaa would be the constant twist in the movie. There were so many that you just don’t have the time to be bored. It kept me surprised throughout.

Things we should think about

I do have a grouse on why is it terrorist must always be Muslims? Okay, yeah that’s the reality of Kashmiris maybe but point is, there is already so much hate in today’s world and misconception concerning Muslims and terrorism, I would like it if Bollywood, for once wouldn’t drift into the stereotypical western image of terrorism.

Beyond all that, had they ever tried to explain or dwell into the issue of Kashmir itself? Maybe it would be nice for once if we didn’t all try to come out as heroes but rather, like the movie itself is propagated - spend more time on pondering the concept of ’lesser of two evils and greater of two goods’.

In all though I love the movie and hope to see more movies of such quality from Bollywood.
